I wonder if the script is going to be made available to the public once the play is over or would that be against the agreement with Paizo?

Or, if its good enough, would Paizo release it as a free PDF for its customers.

Great idea...I set up a poll in a separate thread, to help us choose a day. Check it out here.

Glad for the attention!

I'm so glad to see "Burnt Offerings" getting so much attention! I read through Tom Beckett's script a couple days ago and am totally jazzed -- it's going to be sooooo fun! If any of you can make it, I have no doubt it will be worth your time. Tom has a whole squad of super-creative gaming buddies that will be participating in the production, both back and on-stage (the cast will be a mix of adults and middle-schoolers). For my part, I'll be lending my lute to the production, but I suspect the play will benefit most strongly from all the stage-combat expertise Tom will be pulling together.

I'm so excited about this play!

So is there any way for the rest of us to see the script?

You would have to ask Tom -- I'm not sure what sort of arrangements he's made with Paizo. I do have a copy, as I have a small speaking part in the show, but I probably shouldn't share particulars. I don't, however, see any harm in drumming up folks' enthusiasm and excitement for the show. Tom worked very hard on the script, and I think it does a good job telling a story that will resonate with both middle-schoolers and adults -- all in a context that is completely immersed in the world of RPG's. It will be fun to see all those idiomatic RPG elements acted out live on stage!

How would one reach him? Does he have an EN World ID?

Not sure if he does, but his email address is posted on the Da Vinci Arts Middle School website (da Vinci Arts Middle School).

I don't think Tom anticipated that interest in the show would extend beyond Portland, but I suspect he, like me, would be frustrated if such a production was staged in a town too far away to facilitate seeing it in person. I'm sure Tom will do what he can to share the show with people that can't actually make it to the theater. Perhaps the answer is to organize a performance in Bellaire?

Thanks for the info. I sent him an email and we'll see what he says.

I'm not sure our home schooling group would jump at the chance to perform this particular play but I am pretty sure my own kids will really like it as we finished burnt offerings early this year as a family. A play based on the adventure might be a good way, I was thinking, of introducing some discussion of drama in our literature class.

This could spell disaster for the gaming industry if stage adaptations of Hook Mountain Massacre wind up circulating in schools....

Hello Everyone,

I am the one playwright, director and producer of the piece. I AM very excited to be able to share the love of the game with my school community.

It has been a blast trying to stick as close to the characters and the script of James Jacobs original, as well as throw in some red meat for the gamers in the audience. Yes, there have been some sections edited for school, timing and to center the play upon the Hero Journey of the main characters.

I don't think the general audience is ready for Nick Logue yet. LOL.

Please show Paizo your love. They are doing so much for the gamer community. Those people work insanely hard.

Thanks you all. If you have more questions feel free to contact me in any of the ways listed above.

From the art teacher/director

Quote:
I am honored at the interest in the play.

We are in rehearsal with a cast of 24 humans, 8 goblins, 6 elves, a gnome, a halfling, a demon and a fire leopard.

Again, I wish to repeat the sentiment expressed here. Paizo is the most amazing community the gaming world has to offer. It makes me a little verklempt thinking about all the hard work they do for all of us, for love of the game.

Having gamed the Rise of the Runelords, Crimson throne and preparing for the Council of thieves, it is CRYSTAL clear that the writers at Paizo have a mastery of story-telling, a dedication to gaming and the true spirit of community. Community not just for the sake of making a few bucks (though isn’t that the dream of all of us) but because they recognize something important in this game.

My school is Portland’s Arts magnet school. We were started by a group of parents only 14 years ago. These were parents who wanted the artistically-oriented kids of Portland to have the option of expressing themselves in a focused, arts-disciplined environment. Frankly, we have had some great successes and a few frustrations, but we continue to grow and take leadership in the arts and in education.

For the last couple of years we have had a group of young boys and girls who have seemed to operate in isolation, not quite connecting. This is the same group of skaters/video-gamers/”ne’er do wells that I was a part of 30 years ago (Crap! 30 years????). So I decided to use my art form (I’ve been a theater artist for almost those same 30 years) to give them a taste of DnD, the game the made such a difference to me. I wish you all could see these these kids. Involved, swinging swords, trying to figure out how to pronounce Elven, Goblin and Danish (Gnomish). They are reading every bit of background I can give them, working on costume designs, fight and dance choreography, Ameiko is fervently practicing her guitar. And best of all, many of them are starting to pick up Pathfinder books and connect Paizo to the world of the game.

The main party is drawn from town:

Finn, A young errand boy for the Rusty Dragon
Ameiko Kaijitsu, Owner of the Rusty Dragon
Milosh Hemlock, Son of Sheriff Belor Hemlock
Shalelu Andosana, Elven bounty hunter.
Abstalar Zantus, Priest of Desna
Veznutt Parooh, Gnomish wizard, owner of the Way North

Milosh and Finn are the only original additions. They are the focus of the Hero’s Journey arc of the play. Milosh to fighter, Finn to Wizard.

Come see us. Support us if you can. And please keep supporting the folks at Paizo.

I'm still a bit speechless and honored that this is actually happening, actually. And I'm really really really looking forward to seeing the play!
