What a surprise, Patresh does his best to match Saph's drawl. He wants to sit on his butt and eat, rather than actually helping those in need. His look turns serious. Do you think those in the slaver's cells would support your plan for us, Saph? Personally, I think they would rather have us working to free them as quickly as possible. It is our duty to use the skills we have to liberate those being oppressed by these Bloodreavers. Anything less would be criminal of us.

While furiously chewing, Saphalaxis raising a finger and wags it at the warlord. "This is not the time for hyperbole... people's lives are at stake. In no way is spending time to analyze the situation a criminal offense, and it should not be treated as such. We will not be arrested if we meticulously plan our slave break, so don't try acting like we will."

He swallows the rib meat in a gulp, drops the bone on his plate, and then reaches for another. "As far as what those enslaved by the Bloodreaver actually want... you shouldn't try and speak for them either. Who knows what they want? They deserve more than your pity... thinking that you know better than they do what they do and don't want, when they do or don't want to break free."

He shakes his head and purses his lips (while licking some of the sauce off of them.) He says quietly, ever-so-slightly in a mocking and bemused way... "Shameful. Shameful, it is."

As you are discussing the plans and timing of your attempted resuce the door opens and a towering humanoid enters the inn, his appearance stopping all conversations in the inn. Rendil blanches a bit at the arrival of an ogre, with a trio of heavily armed orc in tow.

The ogre scans the room, taking in the patrons and drinking in the fear that they are exuding. He saunters over to the bar and slams a heavy fist on the table, leaning in close to the elderly matron behind the bar. Rendil looks over at you and shakes his head in warning, if anyone makes a move to stop him.

"You gots the payment for the Mages?" the ogre says, his mouth filled with yellowed, broken teeth. The matron nods slowly, and goes into the back room, reappearing with a sack, which she hands over to the ogre. "Here you go Brugg, 20% of what we made last month, just like always" she says.

The ogre looks into the sack, apparently satisfied, turns to the onlookers. His beady eyes fix on you, and he stomps over to your table. The stench is palatable as he leers at you, "Who're you? WHattya doing here?" Brugg says.

When the Ogre approaches the table Yanwer quickly removes the finger he was using to plug the closest ear and offers his hand; apparently quite oblivious to the fact that the person in front of him is in any way unusual.

We're unemployed! Do you know where we could find work?

The young man's voice has a lilting quality that reminds people of strange pipes playing; and his simple smile and bearing are that of a simpleton. The sort of unintelligent person most people seek to avoid and ignore.

Vio

Vio merely shakes his head at both dragonborn. I will eternally tell Patresh to keep his holier-than-thou scaly snout out of things and I will have to fight tooth and nail for my bodyguard to actually be willing to take a risk now and then. The eladrin is about to taste one of the his companion's ribs when the ogre walks in, drawing all attention. Seeing his party draw the creature's attention, as well as the boy's first remark, Vio tries to play along...

"Well...what my simple companion is trying to say I think is true. No employer has given us a job. Would you like to sit down and have a few drinks with us, and tell us about your bosses? I am a mage myself and having never visited this place before knowing other mages would be quite beneficial to your bosses as well as myself."

Sitting down to have drinks with an ogre? Well, just as long as no one expects me to get friendly with goblins, I can live with it. It will be interesting to see where this goes, too. Sargil leans back in his chair, watching the exchange unfold with some interest. He seems fixed on the ogre, though it's hard to tell whether it is because he's interested in how he'll react or because the paladin doesn't trust the huge humanoid.

The ogre takes the proferred hand in his and and squeezes it with such force that the warlock is sure his hand will break. Satisfied that he showed his manhood (or ogrehood rather), Brugg looks at the smaller humanoid with a look of confusion. "Hmm, you ain't gots work why youse here? The mages ain't here, most of 'em...err,well maybe...uh ferget I said nuthin'" Brugg says, apparently realizing he said too much and storms out of the inn, throing an unfortunate patron into the wall as he walked out.

Vio does his best to inconspicuously look around the place for those that look like they may be wizards. If that fails, the Eladrin summons Rendil, and asks him a question. "What was that about? Are you guys paying some mages to keep trouble out of here?"

Yanwer gently massages his mashed hand and nods convivially to Vio with a conspiratorial smile.

As the ogre wanders off and his employer begins inquiring about mages in the area, Saph nods sagely with a pork rib currently in his mouth. "Shee? There'sh shtuff here we don't know about. We musht shpend our time learning our way around. Can't run off willy-nilly and poshibly upshet that ogre again or any magesh in the area..."

Sargil leans back in his chair and lets out a sigh with a wisp of smoke. "I don't want to just sit around and watch while these filthy goblins go on with their 'business'," the dragonborn says in exasperation.

"But ... you have a point. There's more going on here than we know, and while I hope that these Mages aren't aiding and abetting slavers, if they are it presents a much larger problem than we first thought. And I wouldn't put it past ogre-hiring extortionists to have a hobgoblin slaving ring on the side." Sargil closes his eyes and massages his brow with one hand, muttering, "Why can't it ever be as simple as 'kill the goblins'? Some people just have to make it complicated."

"Well, Mr. Cautious, where do you suggest we begin?" he says to Saph. "Or does Rendil have any suggestions?"

Saphalaxis looks over at Sargil as he's talking, and he snorts once and puts down his food as the warrior is finishing up. "As simple as 'kill the goblins'? Is that all that concerns you? Just getting to take a life? If that's all that matters... you don't need us for that. Just go out into the forest and I'm pretty sure you'll be able to find and kill as many goblins, kobolds, gnolls, hobgoblins, orcs, bugbears, owlbears, dire bears, dire boars, dire rats, and troglodytes as you need, to satisfy your bloodlust."

The rogue raises his nose a bit and says with a haughty voice "Personally, I do not kill indiscriminently, and thus have no desire to go rushing off just to find 'targets'. And I would imagine my employer is of similar mind on that score." He glances over at Vio for his reaction.

"As far as where to begin... I would think interviewing various people in the Hall who have dealt with the slavery or kidnapping would make the most sense. Perhaps the local constabulary would have more information." Saphalaxis then reaches for another set of ribs and continues to eat.

You go too far, Saphalaxis, Patresh rumbles in frustration. You know as well as the rest of us that Sargil's goal is helping those unfortunates who have been taken as slaves. Killing the goblins is a straightforward way of dealing with the issue. As warriors, we approach problems in such a way. Not all of us are as skilled in skulking around, or away from, challenges as you are. His glare leaves little doubt of his opinion of Saph's true motives.

Now, I am willing to listen to reason. We can ask such questions, and I will assist in doing so, but tomorrow we set out to find the Bloodreavers and rescue their prisoners. Unlike some, I can not sit by, enjoying what luxury is available here, while knowing that innocents are suffering in the hands of these hobgoblins.

Saphalaxis smirks... knowing that his response to Sargil's flippant comment about how just casually killing things is the easiest method of problem-solving... must have hit Patresh a little too close to home.

"Well you really ought to give it a try then... it is rather relaxing and calming once you get used to it." The blue dragonborn leans back in his chair and interlocks his fingers back behind his head.

Vio

Vio nods and gives a small smile. His more well-intentioned friend were shown to be outsmarted by his brawny bodyguard. No surprise really, that is why he hired Saph, smarter than he looked. He waves his arm over the plate of ribs in front of Saph, as if he was trying to decide on which rib to pick. A few words mumbled into his mug of ale, and Vio decided on the piece of meat, picked it up a took a bite. He winced and threw the bone down. "Agghh! How can you eat these? They taste of manure and cow cud!"

Vio takes another long draught of his ale, and lets a subtle wink go the way of the other two dragonborn. "Let's go out on the town and see what we can find out. We leave in the morning."

Great RPing guys keep it up. I cast prestidigitation on Saph's food, making it taste horrible.

Yanwer watches the whole conversation with interest, his big pupil-less eye cavorting wildly.

When Vio announces they're leaving he makes to get ready too (which consists mostly of wiping his mouth).

Saphalaxis looks at Vio like he has two heads. "Manure and cow crud? What are you talking about? These things are excellent!" He leans forward again and grabs another rib, the sauces dripping down his fingers. "I think all that blood you ingest has destroyed your taste buds. If you really think these ribs--" The rogue opens his mouth and stuffs the rib into his maw and bites down... and suddenly his eyes pop out of his head! With a cough and a gag, he spits the rib out... and in a perfect spit-take, sauce splatters over everything (especially on Sargil's tabard across from him)... and the bone flies across the table, knocking Saph's flagon over and spilling a flow of ale across the wooden tabletop.

"Gah!!! What-- what the-- What happened?!" He scans the room looking for the halfling. "Rendil! What are you trying to pull here?!? What is this?!?"

Sargil looks down at his soiled tabard, slowly wiping the meat and sauce off of Kord's fist. "Excellent. Nothing strikes fear into goblin slavers more than a fire-breathing barbecued rib with a sword," he says drily. "Apparently the luxuries don't last!" he announces, his mouth gaping open in a grin, giving Vio a responding conspiratorial wink. "Alright Saph, I think that's our signal. Let's go learn the lay of this land, so to speak."

Patresh stands as well, a knowing look passing between him and the wizard. Aye, he responds to Sargil's words. Let's see what we can learn, and then be off about our business.

Vio

Vio stands from his seat at the table, finishes his drink, and begins walking to the door. Once outside, he looks both ways down the street, trying to spot the ogre that was around earlier.
