Berrek saps some magical power from Eltyr... a sensation not feeling that awfully wonderful for a caster to say the least... it feels as if someone had taken and withered a small piece of your soul... weakening you a bit in the process....

Berrek you are able to grab a detect magic from Eltyr and once taking the time to concentrate on your artifact you notice what you did before.. a faint aura of a type of magic you cannot pinpoint... as you try on the third round of concentration a flash of light from the cenrter of the cloud amulet blasts you in the eyes.. a light so bright you are stunned and dazed for 3 rounds.... once you shake off the blinding light you are otherwise unaffected by the blast and no one else sees the light or is effected by it unless they too concentrate on the items in question with detect magic... for a short amount of time... they do however see you being stunned by something...

OOC: I'm kinda slow posting as of late I know but I just got a new job.... so posting early morning/afternoons is out for me now LOL.... I'll do my best but I pretty sure aI can keep up for the most part ....

“I can carry a few extra things too, though my way certainly can’t be used in as many different ways as Menhir’s strength,” Eltyr grins, reaching into the satchel hanging at his side and pulling out a number of items that surely couldn’t all fit in the bag, before replacing them with the same lack of concern as to where they might fit.

“So, was there anything else people wanted to discuss before we head out?” Eltyr asks, as he finishes repacking his stuff.

OOC
Eltyr can carry another 70 lbs. or so in his satchel without slowing himself down.

Berrek Sandblade

Berrek turns from his feast slowly, appearing to listen to the group when suddenly he stops, frozen in mid-turn. After 10 hearbeats or so he continues his turn facing the party again, slight frown on his face.

"What!? Whoaa! ... ... ... Phew! Hm, should I warn the others? It doesn't seem to affect me in any other way. Meh. I'll wait to get the wizard alone on the way to discuss this. We should get going. This isn't most secure place around in the middle of the crowd. Yes, that's it."

Aloud, he says:
"We didn't hear from Menhir and Lord Edvik. What can we expect from you?"
To Menhir:
"You obviously have no problem traveling through the earth and even worked stone. Can you see through it? Since we're going to be underground at least some time if you can see through the walls it would be very advantageous for us. What else can you do?"

OOC: italicized text in dark teal is what Berrek is THINKING not SAYING.

Menhir at first isn't certain what to make of the question, it not being used to thinking of itself and the earth as separate in the way that Berrek seems to be suggesting. After some consideration the elemental offers the human a head shake to indicate the negative; a gesture it has frequently observed organic beings performing.

“True Berrek, but I thought I’d remind people that we need to get moving soon, before we get too settled here,” Eltyr remarks. “And although I too would be interested in what Edvik and Menhir have to say about themselves, if they wish to enlighten us more at this time that is ... perhaps your question needs to be more specific for our earthen friend,” he adds with a grin, obviously quite happy with Menhir’s answer to Berrek's questions so far.

With a sigh Berrek tries to understand alien thought processes that could possibly justify such generic answer to simple question. After hearing mages comment and analyzing what he saw up to this point, he concludes that he likely won't understand elementals way of thinking and that he is some kind of fighter with great strength, armor and shield. Type that stands right in front of a threat and trades the enemies blow for blow. Seeing how small creature lifted grown up human with ease and considering his stony nature Berrek wouldn't bet on human fighter outlasting this one in such exchange.

"Hmm, you may be right. However, I don't want to offend our mineral friend here by giving him third degree."
Turning toward Menhir
"I'll try to be more specific in the future. Obviously we think in different ways and I guess Common isn't your first language. No hard feelings?"
Berrek smiles, somewhat unsure if faceless creature can understand such gesture, but trying anyhow. He offers his hand to the elemental.

For Rathan

Berrek is trying to get on Menhir's good side, there is quite distinct probability that he will need his strenth for protection and maybe his abilities for scouting where he cannot go. (he doesn't know that Menhir can take someone along and Berek is probably to big anyhow).

Also, by touching him Berrek will try to ascertain if he has abilities that can be used by him.

I'll leave the details to you if Berrek is capable of sensing someone is spellcaster or capable of spell like abilities etc...without actualy trying to steal something.

For Unleashed

Although its demeanor remains impassive, privately Menhir is rather puzzled by the disappointment and frustration its response has engendered in Berrek. The elemental though its answer was clear and concise but it's now obvious to Menhir that it has missed an important subtext of their conversation. And what constitutes "hard" feelings?

Menhir studies Berrek's proffered hand for a moment before responding in its deep grinding tone: "Hard feelings. Yes?" The earth elemental mimic's the man's unfamiliar gesture, extending a stony appendage towards Berrek but stopping short of grasping his. It remains in that pose wondering what the significance of the gesture might be. Evidently, none of the Bowtorindale druids had thought to teach the elemental to shake hands.

Not expecting Menhir's action, Lidia give a brief shriek of surprise as he pick up her chair. Followed by a coughing fit as a bit of cheese goes down the wrong way, causing her to almost fall off her chair. Once she gets herself back under control she addresses Menhir in a calm voice much as she would address a child. "Thank you Menhir, you have certainly demonstrated your ability to carry our supplies. If you don't mind carrying them, we will not bother with a mule. Now. Can you put me down. Please." The final please showing some signs of distress.

Once back on solid earth, she will turn to the others and say "Well Menhir seems to have solved the problem of supplies. That said, even without supplies, I can not walk that fast and it will probably take me 7 to 10 days to walk there."

"Anyway, Is there anything else we need to sort out or are we ready to go?"

OOC
Lidia has 20' movement due to medium load. Mostly from her armor.

Menhir obediently sinks back down into the floor, effectively setting down Lidia's chair as requested while leaving Berrek with his hand unshaken. Evidently, understanding its companions' desires is going to be a difficult ongoing process. The elemental considers the issue while floating lazily in the ground with only its head and shoulders visible on the floor.

OOC:
I was about to say that Berrek finishes the gesture shaking hands with Menhir, but Ambrus posted twice quickly. I thought that you put Lidia down immediately after demonstration. Also, would Menhir recognize signs of 'disappointment and frustration' on human?

For Rathan

I want to know if someone within sight/hearing of Berrek tries to detect magic on an artifact (roll relevant skill as needed). He watches for such an event and can recognize casting of detect magic and/or concentration needed. Once he detects it, he watches the user closely for reactions, unsure whether his detection has anything to do with his loss of memory or his abilities.

Berrek feels frustrated because of misunderstanding, but not disappointed by any measure. He is more confused, unsure whether to take this refusal as an insult or as simple social ineptness of the elemental. Taking into consideration behaviour shown before, he takes it as latter and laughs it off.
"Well, Lidia, it seems you have lots and lots of work to do with this one. Couldn't Earth send someone accustomed to more human contact?"

"Hm, you are right Lidia, we would take forever on foot, but we can't afford horses and man to guard them. How about we take the carriage and make a deal with it's owner that he is to pick us up somewhere at a time specified in sending he will receive at a later date?
once he delivers us in the vicinity of the keep he is free to return and continue his business until we call him back."

While others respond to the idea, Berrek turns (crouches) to Menhir again and lowers his voice so he doesn't interrupt others in speaking.

"Menhir, how do you feel touch when immersed? Hm, that's sounds wrong. What I want to know is, you indicated that you cannot see while under earth, but you have to sense your surroundings somehow. Do you feel touch of earth while traveling in such manner and can you make distinction between touch of human and touch of let say tree?"

“Well, I’m happy to get the keep any way we can, though walking sounds fine to me, but I don’t know if we’ll find anyone willing to take us that close to the destruction,” Eltyr remarks.

Lidia watched the exchange between Menhir and Berrek with some trepidation. However, after a few moments thought she decided not to interfere. After all, he had already been warned and there is no better teacher than experience.

When Berrek addresses Lidia she responds "Berrek. What you need to understand is that the Earth does not think like us. To it, all humanoid history is but barely the blink of an eye. Its more use to timescales of millions of years rather than the seconds and minutes that we work on. Considering that Menhir is only a few weeks old, he is doing very well. Thinks of him as a young child, with the same capacity to learn." She pauses for a moment and then continues. "No that wrong. It true as far as his experience of humanoid culture is concerned. Otherwise, he is as skilled and deadly as the rest of us.

"As far as a carriage is concerned. Does anyone know if there is a road leading to the keep? If not, how far can we get by carriage? Also, how safe will it be for the driver to return alone? Although it will take longer, my feeling is that we would be better off walking. That way we can get a feel for the land as we go.

Looking up at Berrek with its crystalline eyes, the earth elemental considers the odd question for a few moments before finally offering an affirmative head nod as an answer.

Before many more questions get asked or answered there is a knock at the door and a regal looking servant of the Lorken king sticks his head into the room rather tentatively.... then speaks....

"I do.. umm... hate to be the messenger on this one.. you ARE our chosen heros after all.. but umm.. the kings grow impatient.. please.. daylight is fastly fading.. I'm implore you my good Sirs and Ma'am.... you must be moving quickly.... we have little time and very few answers...." and with that the figure ducks back out of the doorway as if one were going to throw something at his head.....

Taking the messenger's interruption as a social cue, Menhir takes the opportunity to rise up out of the floor next to the druidess. Once more the elemental asks a silent question of her by raising a stony appendage to point in the direction of the far distant star rock impact site.

When the door has closed, Eltyr adjusts his satchel one more time and makes a move for the door as he says with a chuckle, “The daylight must fade faster when kings have to wait on others, even if only for a short while, so I guess we’d better get moving ... we can see about a carriage as we finish our other last minute preparations.”

Berrek raises fluidly, nods at the messenger and collects few chosen bits to nibble on on the road. He adjusts few items, hoists up his backpack and starts towards the door.

As the others start to get ready, Lidia also rises, checks her equipment and dons her backpack. Once ready, she follows the others through the door.

Anton, grateful for the reprieve in the ever-growing uncomfortableness that had been settling among the group, moved to collect a few bits of food, those that might not necessarily be eaten immediately. His belongings packed together he follows to the door, "May the light of Pelor guide our journey into the dark."
