As the others entered the building, Whin stayed outside, his gaze alternating between the golem and the guards as he sized both up, though in truth he was keeping an eye on everything.
"What do you think of the guards?" He whispered as he stood next to the golem, crossing his arms. "Either they are used to such adventurers, or they are arrogant enough to think that no troupe of outsiders could challenge them, or they know something we do not."
ooc
Talking to my sword here, though anybody listening in would probably think whin was stupidly trying to converse with the golem, and hopefully be quite taken when they hear a response.
Dear Sweetleif, do you wish to RP the sword or should I? In case you do, it's got the personality of a smiteful warpriest.
Receiving his glass of wine, Vaidun swirls it a bit and takes a sip. His eyebrows raise in surprise, as if he didn't expect to find quite such a nice flavored drink here in the Dalelands. He smiles and nods at the master of the inn. "Quite nice, goodman. When I am finished here, I may well have some business to discuss with you."
With a smile, he turns his attention back to the conversation at hand. "Vandals? That is strange, considering your uncle to be a prominent mage. We have a tendency to guard our homes with the magics we practice, and it generally takes those of skill to penetrate said magics. Were you and the local constabulary able to find any clues while you were at the mansion?"

Learah says, "Yes, I fear that he may have met with foul play. I took the sheriff to his mansion a week after I began to suspect something was wrong, and we found his home to have been badly vandalized and that looters had already been in the place. This all happened about two weeks ago."
"This is indeed troubling, as Vaidun mentioned usually powerful magic-users keep themselves well-protected in their own homes. So it appears that something or someone have assaulted the mages home with two intentions. The first, is that they used the looting as a cover-up to throw us off track and their true target was the mage, or second, a group of powerful theives attacked the home for a reason, most likely looking for a particular item and waylaid the mage before he could mount a defense. It would take much coordination to surprise a magic-user in his home. Did your uncle have any enemies you knew about my dear Learah?" Blade says, leaning back in his chair thinking about the possibilities.

"This is all most troubling! As I just said, I am not aware of any enemies of Uncle Londie, but that does not mean that there were are none."

Learah Relight says to Vaidun, "No, he had no real enemies that I am aware of. The people here always liked his fireworks shows very much. But, honestly, I had not had overmuch contact with him in recent years, so I cannot really say what he may or may not have been up to. Clues? No, nothing was apparent to our untrained eyes. I am hoping that you have more success with this!"

Oh, PLEASE?? Can I, can I, huh, huh, huh???? Have you named the sword yet, or may I?
The sword's voice is quite high pitched, and to the untrained ear sounds very much like the scraping whine that is produced when it is very rapidly withdrawn from its sheath. "Ahhh," it says, "They're all a bunch of pu*****! Let me at 'em! I can take 'em!"

"I am Sam. Sam I am." Let's see.... that reminds me of something. Oh, yeah:
"I will not eat them with a moose,
I will not eat them with a goose.
I will not eat them, Sam I am,

And for this case, we have this adaptation:
"Is Uncle Londar in his house?
Is Uncle Londar with a mouse?
I do not know where he may be,
so why don't you come look with me?"
"I tried to lock it up again, but with so many of the windows broken out now, I fear that it did not do much good. Nevertheless, here is the key," Learah says, handing Sam I Am the key. [She also gives you directions to the place.]

OOC: Thanks! I appreciate that! - Your overworked DM
Nilah stepped back and let the others deal with the talking, since Learah only answered half of his questions, then didn't answer the others until his compatriots asked... so Nilah decided they could handle the grunt discussion unless they missed something Nilah needed to know at the end of the discussion.

No offense intended, sir! It was merely an oversight in dealing with all of the posts. Learah doesn't know exactly how long he's been gone, she just suspected he was missing when he missed her wedding. She has no idea who he was around shortly before then. For the sake of an answer, we'll say that her wedding was six weeks ago, but I reserve the right to revise that if later events require. (I honestly don't know and can't look at the module here at work.)
Vaidun takes another sip of his wine and smiles. "Well, we should certainly check his house. We may well find something worthwhile there."

Vaidun smiles, and downs the remainder of his drink. He tosses a few coins on the table, and stands up. He smoothes his vest and turns to look at Blade. "Then let us be on our way."

Londar Brightrain's mansion is a little ways northeast of Hampton Hill and is surrounded by the Horrik Forest, a light forest dotted with rocky ravines and gullies that is relatively easy to travel through. The easiest and safest route to the mansion heads east along the Horrik Trade Path until reaching the dirt road leading to the mansion. The cobblestone Horrik Trade Path is a quite busy roadway, frequently patrolled and free of bandits and dangerous creatures. The dirt road leading to the mansion is wide enough for a single cart and has no traffic to speak of. There are shorter ways to get to the mansion through the forest, and you surmise that the looting parties would have avoided the heavily patrolled road. Just before you get to the sideroad that leads to the mansion, you are met by a patrol of guards from Hampton Hill.
"Ho, travelers! What is your business, please? We have heard that there are bandits hereabouts."
Sam rides a bit ahead of the party and greets the guards.
"Good day, gentlemen! It is good to see a diligent city watch!
We are here at the behest of Learah Relight to help investigate the disappearance of her uncle, the mage. As you see, she has lent us the key to his house." He displays it.
"Before we search the place, is there any information that you might have that could be of assistance? It might not be obviously connected. Strangers hanging around town around the time of the disappearance, anything like that."
Laz exited the Inn and quickly scrambled up the arm of his rock-beast once more as they headed out... a small worked foothold was all that he needed to stay atop the large sized golem and did so with apparent ease... As they left town he looked about his companions and wondered if any of them had what it took to get this mission done... He noted strength, intelligence, willpower, and inner force within most if not all present but he was not sure how well each of them would fill the 'cog' of a well oiled party with roles to be fulfilled... he wondered exactly how well each of them would get along with not only he and his rather awkward demeanor... but with the rest of the party as well... he would not trust any of them until he was assured each of them knew that numbers and watching your fellow mates back is how you got to the top of the proverbial food chain...

The guard turns to his fellow guard, the two exchange glances and nods. The guard leading the patrol says, "Yes, we know Mrs. Relight sent for help. It's such a shame what happened to the mage! The way I understand it, someone or something attacked and killed Londar and his driver along the Horrik Trade Road."
Another guard then says, "The way I heard it, the Rainbow Mage had been toying with demons, one of his spells went wrong, and he fell into the Abyss." Still another says, "No, no, no. It was another wizard who was jealous of Londar's power that had him killed."
Then the leader speaks up again, "Whatever happened to Londar, I wish you lot good luck in getting anything that he left behind. His house is full of traps and golems and things."
Nilah says nothing on the road, simply moving behind Gomlar in a similar fashion to last time, attempting to appear as if nothing were amiss, and perhaps that he saw something curious between the golem's legs. He said nothing, however. He wasn't particularly fond of making an impression around those who would... protest his race of birth.
He wasn't sure whether he should trust all of his compatriots or not. He wasn't even sure if his race had been told to all of the party, Nilah only knowing that Blade and Whin would know his 'true' self. In anycase, he'd make sure no one died unless they crossed him first... and even then, he'd try to weigh their skills and essential-ness to the task at hand. He wasn't really a bad guy... just... growing up in a Lolth-worshipping Drow city in the Underdark often made people paranoid...

OOC: Scarrrrrrryyy, Theroc! BRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR!! Nilah doesn't kill DMs does he??
OOC
That may have come across more threatening than I intended it. He wouldn't necessarily outright kill someone who crossed him... it's simply be a matter of being distracted the moment that assassin came out of the shadows to take the person who crossed him, etc...
He doesn't take kindly to betrayal... who does? Also, he'll try his best to keep everyone alive and well up until someone crosses them, he just removes them from his 'watch this guy's back' list.
