Vaidun nods at Nilah. "Well, at least it isn't some sort of guardian. Though if it were, I imagine there would be signs."

"We have several doors to choose from. I want to see the tower, so I suggest we head east" Sam says, and moves to the east door in the dining room. He inspects it carefully and puts his ear near it to listen.
ooc: search +16, listen +4. take 20.
Leif, would it be possible to indicate on the map which doorways are open or closed? It take it that there are 5 closed doors in the dining room, plus the open door to the foyer, and two broken windows to outside.
Laz used his senses rather than his mouth and kept a close eye on Sams movements..... he knew as an elf his senses would let him find secret passages easilly but it was traps he was worried about....

Nilah too, was confident he could find secret doors if he was near them, but also knew he had trouble finding things generally. He was much better when it came to confrontations of some sort.
He kept quiet and followed the lead of the others, still letting his eyes seek magic.

I thought I answered this yesterday! Doors shown on the map are CLOSED unless opened by the party, and I'll assume that they close behind you unless I'm told otherwise.
The doors on the map are closed to start with, but I certainly don't think we should close them behind us to block our retreat! Sam at least will always leave them open, just as the door from the foyer to the dining room is open, and we need a way to keep track after a while. This will also tell us at a glance how much of the place we've been to.
OOC: He was a wizard. Maybe he has auto-closing, unseen servant doors or some such.

Whin insists doors remain propped open behind us. There is certainly enough debris to form doorstops. "But enough of that. Sam is correct, the tower is where we will find information, if any is to be found. The mansion general has been looted and ransacked."
Blade will re-assume his position as the rearguard, hoping the others can keep watch in front, while he focuses on any threats approaching from the back.

What's the light like here? Full illumination from the windows? Are there shadows?

renau1g and all
I wouldn't call it exactly "full illumination," but it is fairly well-lit. There are shadows, yes. And any windows that are (wholly or partially) intact, remember, are stained glass, so they don't allow as much light to come through.
OOC: For a group of wizards of our power, I don't think light and/or darkness will be much of an issue.

OOC: Light enough to dazzle Nilah, or just bright enough that the others have no problem seeing?

Vaidun feigns a yawn as he hears Blade his up the line. "I'd rather fancy afternoon tea and a short catnap," whispers the wizard, a smile on his face.

If Sam didn't detect any traps or unusual features on the east door he was carefully inspecting, he will wait until the party gathers in the dining room, then try to open the door.
Hmmm, not precisely sure I remember the map correctly, since I don't have it here with me at work to check and I can't open the map file on this sorry computer in my office, but the way I seem to remember things is that the opening off of the dining room to the east was not a door, but an open doorway, and, then, there was a door to the east in the next room. So, before you open that door, there's probably another room to be described first. Anyway, when I get home I'll check on that, and take appropriate action then. [Unless I forget, that is. But I'm sure someone can give me an adequate nudge. (Jolt! whatever.)]
