The Le Games is happy to bring you Broken: The Memory of Solaris, a new d20 Space Fantasy Campaign Setting by Mark Charke!

Solaris was a fantasy world, richly populated with magic, psionics and technology. It had a wide diversity of cultures, religions and races. Unfortunately, Solaris was destroyed.

Forty years later, Broken tells the story of the survivors who struggle in the cold void of space. On drifting fragments, their once great culture has to soften stone so it can be eaten, recycle food, renew the critical air bubble and try to create some trace of heat.

Some dream of finding a new world but suffer the reality of the vast distances and lack of a map. Others have turned pirate, eroding what little is left. Perhaps though, there is hope with the new generation that does not miss a world never seen, adapting since birth to life in the void.

Broken is a d20 fantasy campaign. It deals with recycling, micro-environments and the rigors of space. Broken introduces the Crystal Psion class, 5 new prestige classes, 11 new feats, a new domain and 30 new spells, 9 new powers, a handful of magic items and artifacts, 17 new monsters (including playable races and a new dragon) and three short adventures. Broken has an entire chapter devoted to survival in space using real-world facts. This includes weightless movement, producing oxygen with plants, sleeping without drowning in carbon dioxide, direct exposure to sunlight or darkness and the problems of radiation as well as supernatural problems and solutions.

Want to know more? Check out the Free Preview!

Broken: The Memory of Solaris is produced and owned by Mark Charke (www.Charke.ca) (Writer, Artist, Layout), and will be published by The Le Games (www.TheLeGames.com)

Broken: The Memory of Solaris will be available this summer in PDF format.

I've been missing fantasy space ever since Spelljammer, and looking over the preview, this seems to be everything I've been wanting. This is definately a must-buy for me (if only so I can blow up my campaign world )!

Thanks for the positive responce Alzrius! Broken takes a slightly different look at space than Spelljammer - it's almost zero kelvin and there is nothing to breath. With gossamer wing peices though, you could get a ship to sail on radiation currents and accelerate up to near the speed of light - at least until you hit something.

The more realistic take on space is nice, but I think what looks coolest is the idea that space isn't some sort of community. There's no regular traffic of spaceships around the (broken) planet, no interstellar confederations, etc. This makes the loss of the planet much more dramatic. I do hope, though, there's plenty of flavor to convince high-level groups to stay around the broken world. It seems like they could just plane shift to another plane and adventure from there, abandoning the world with little loss once it's gone.

Looks very interesting. Is there going to be a POD version or print friendly version?

The book will indeed be available in Portrait (Easy to print) and Landscape (onscreen reading) version. Both will be in the production zip file that will go on sale when we are ready.

We are looking at putting together a low-ink version, but this is not definitive at this time. As for POD, we are having some troubles with the LuLu printer at the moment. We hope to get this resolved before going live, but this is not guaranteed.

It's a very exciting product, so stay tuned!

The producer, Mark Charke, is monitoring this thread and will respond to any questions you have for Broken: The Memory of Solaris!

Again thanks for the positive feedback!

The (ex) planet's name is Solaris. There is no space traffic, although some is hinted at in the art. I'd like to think there is enough flavor. There are optional rules for restricting high level spells but the chief restrictions are resources. Most people don't have the resources to research high level spells and finding them is also unlikely.

Once you can planeshift, there are no restrictions on leaving. There is even a parallel world that is touched on several times in the book. Some survivors will have left. High level characters tend to be heads of communities, each with their own goals - to leave, rebuild or find a new world.

Page count and price?
The Portrait (print) version has 113 pages, plus cover and back.
The landscape version has 117 pages plus cover.

(The art content is the same in both versions. The margins are a slightly narrower in the Portrait version accounting for the page difference.)

I'm not sure what the final prices will be so I'll let `Le post them.

POD
I just received the first test-print from Lulu. I think it looks amazing. I can't wait to release it. Some of the transparent surfaces are just barely visible in the print, so I'm going to fix them. The print book is soft cover, perfect bound with a glossy cover and full color interior. It's portrait orientation, 8.5 x 11 inches (legal size).

Print Friendly
I have created a Black and White version and I faded the black areas of the main background so it won't use as much ink, without fading the text.

Or, if you're a cleric of at least 9th level, just survive long enough to pray for a plane shift spell, and then you're set. Though I wonder how the gods will react to the loss of the world, and most of their worshipers (on that planet, at least).

Good points. This is one area of the book I want to leave as a surprise - but Gods and spellcasting are both important parts of Broken. Like everyone else, clerics have a hard time of it.

www.BrokenSolaris.com is now online. Come watch Solaris go away when the book is released.

The website has been upgraded with a number of easter eggs - the planet, for example, can be moved around - at least until it explodes.
