How about a deadline to WotC?

I'm a D&D fan. I prefer 3rd edition. I considered playing 4th edition because there would be good third party support on board. Then the GSL happened. Or didn't.

I know Scott Rouse supposedly has been working on it, but it's been FOREVER.

I suggest that each third party publisher independently (or in a "union" or "coalition" along with other companies that want to produce 4th edition products) set a deadline to WotC. If there is not a viable GSL at that point, Green Ronin (or all the companies) will go with Pathfinder.

This is crossposted from the General Discussion forum.
Please respond in that thread.
How about a deadline to WotC?

I'd love to see this move along with some haste.

I've posted similar threads to the forums of some of these companies:
Necromancer Games

How about a deadline to WotC? - Upcoming Releases - Products - Necromancer Games - Message Board - Yuku
Green Ronin

If any of you know of other third party publishers holding off due to the GSL's not being viable, please post, and I'll post to their forums as well.

Thanks!

I can understand, and share, your frustration but WOTC really holds all the cards. Its their license to write.

Now there are a lot of gamers frustrated with them, and publishers, but I have no idea of how many or how concerned Hasbro is. You have to respect that the decisions involves a big company and a bottom line. Holding your breath wont make the decision come any faster.

What would you do after a deadline? Give them another deadline?

Personally, I'm using the OGL and leaving all this mess behind.

And a deadline would only be antagonistic. WotC has no need to respond to such action. If you think it's best for your site or company, then switch to another system or skim the edge of a lawsuit using the OGL.

While I think a deadline would be less than useful, a joint petition might work. This might actually get WotC to provide more attention, i.e. work-hours, to the problem. It's possible to suggest in this petition that the publishers pay WotC to examine the issue, so as to create some economic incentive and show their good faith; but I'm not sure if that would be positive or just detrimental and unprofessional.

I believe this situation is what Wizards have been going for all along.

Saying they want to allow 3rd party publishers while in actual fact not doing so. The best of both worlds - they avoid (most of) the flak they would have gotten if they a year ago would just have said "no 3PP support in 4E" while still keeping (nearly) all the business to themselves.

Yep, Wizards are in no rush to get out any GSL revisions.
