Another body for the pile!

Let this post be made in memory of

Adrian the Monk, who died in room C94. The ceiling hit him first, the angry giant hit him last. 17,590 xp.

The Fallen (so far)

Note that my PCs are all seasoned players, I just tend to roll in hot streaks and am a fiend when it comes to enemy tactics. To date, they have explored all of section A except the northwest corner, made a short and fatal trip into section E, and have cleared out about half of section B. The rules to my game are simple, all attack and dmg rolls are done in the open (by both players and GM, thus preventing not only player cheating but also GM fudging to reduce player casualties) and PC death results in a player rolling up a new PC from scratch, starting 1 level lower than the lowest party member (to be altered in extreme cases by GM fiat to prevent horrendously disparancy between PCs in level). WARNING, SPOILERS ARE INCLUDED IN DEATH DESCRIPTIONS. The fallen are as follows

Derick Proudfoot (sorcerer/2)- Ambushed by darkmantles in A91
Rufus Stouttower (cleric/2) - Ambushed by Darkmantles in room A91
Reynold Burton (fighter/2) - Ambushed by Darkmantles in room A91
(They were all lvl 2 at the time, and not a single one was watching the ceiling, despite having been ambushed several times prior. Still took another dozen rooms until they decided to have someone keep a watch above them.)
Delf Knottedoak (Rogue/3) - Walked through portal in room A110 (which promptly closed on him)
Delph Knottedoak (Rogue/2) - (PC insisted it was the same character sans exp.) Fireballed outside of A83 (iirc)
Theldax (sorcerer/2) - Fireballed outside of A83
Zacharius (Cleric/1-Rogue/2) - Drained to 0 st by shades in room E25 in random encounter
Brun Oakenshield (Fighter/5) - Slain by Barghests in room E45
Benasbick (Sorcerer/4) - Slain by Barghests in room E45
Bruce Broadnotch (Cleric/4) - Slain by Barghests in room E45
Krunk (Monk/4) - Slain by Barghests in room E45
(It does not help when one of your two tanks (and the paladin to boot) gets charmed in the opening rouunds of the battle and is convinced he has to protects his new friends from the party, forcibly if necessary).

No one has been killed in the past several sessions, although there have been several close calls. I expect more will drop once they push past section B and continue onto section C. Current party is:

Derrick Farson (Fighter/7)
Ives St. Sandelwood (Bard/1-Rogue/5)
Golnack (Paladin/7)
Ben (Cleric/6)
Ysmir (Fighter/6)
Urik (Wizard/5)

My bets are on Ben biting it first, and probably taking down either Golnack or Derrick with him. Anyhow, anyone beat my tally <_< >_>

Another has fallen....

In our group, last night's session saw the demise of Ash, halfling Evoker and Bonded Summoner.

We buried him
in the Celestial's garden
and my pixie put a permanent image of his death on his tombstone, so everyone may view his noble demise for all eternity. Stupid
barghests
.

The player of this character has had three deaths so far in WLD. His paladin died, and we used our only Raise Dead (from a scroll) on him. The paladin then died again, and now his wizard is dead.

This player is younger than most of us (he just turned 16 last month) and has the habit of never letting other party members know he is getting low on hit points. Last night, my pixie was bringing a healing potion to someone who said, "Nah, I'm fine." (He was at 20 h.p. of about 35 total.) So, not seeing any one else who needed help, and with no one shouting out a free action "Medic!" for some help, the pixie did something else. And the next round the wizard died. With Pelor as my witness, I will train this player to ask for help when he gets low on hitpoints! :p

I'm obviously not playing this game right.

Not only have I not killed someone yet (though I did get a character to -2 tonight) I've actually INCREASED the number of PC's (now 6).

I see more dead people!

Lost this thread for a while, but wanted to add two more bodies. Let this post be in memory of...

Bob the Multi-Classing Wizard/Rogue/Cleric Fighter, dead in room F24. He found the pit a few seconds too late. 37555 xp.

ClipClop the Archery Specialist Centaur, dead in room F63. Turns out being large and strong just makes them want to hit you more. 39605 xp.

Total body count so far in this campaign -- an even dozen. I'm hoping to make it a baker's dozen soon!

cheers,

Why stop at 13?

A pair of paladins met their deaths tonight -- let's have a hearty graveyard welcome for...

Charity the Paladin, who expired in G39. Now she knows what a symbol of death does. 31920 xp.

Feldercarb the Chaste, also expired in G39. He took the same class Charity did... 24825 xp.

cheers,

A belated obituary as this happened on the night of the 14th of December.

Sir Bradford, a noble paladin of the Silver Flame slain in combat against the foulest of demons in A103.

It seems I spoke prematurely.

Barendd Nobeard said:
Here I mourn Gaerennraer, devout servant of The Stern--Gaerdal Ironhand, Gnomish god of War & Protection. Felled by a
#@&$!! Rod of Wonder--three fireballs and a failed Fort save vs. Petrification. Grrrrrr
.

Tonight, the devout Gaerennraer,
was brought back from his stony fate. Praise Gaerdal! All glory to Ironhand!

Now I just have to decide whether to start playing him again, or continue with my Pixie Warmage Spellfire Wielder. Or maybe one will just take the other as a cohort....
