Crossed Paths, Part IV

Tullius smiles broadly at Marcus. "Not much chance for glory when there's no bard around to see it." He advances into the room slowly, his weapons at the ready.

"There's a dead fella in here, Dhormium. Is he gonna be a problem? And what is that skull? Is it some sort of Holy Symbol?"

When it appears that the skeleton is not undead Ehldannis moves in to sate his curiousity, and despite his great caution and nimble fingers the crumbling parchment releases a string of Elvish curses. Unsure what the significance of the skull and chain might be, he takes it gingerly off the corpse, shows it to Dhormium and then pockets it. For good measure he also inspects the sword.

Marcus of the Roma.

Marcus holds position at the door until Dhormium confirms that the skeleton isn't living-dead. If Dhormium gives the all clear, he moves lightly into the room and does a quick sweep for traps and other surprises.

He gives the sword a quick look. He doubts that its worth much. It it was, it wouldn't have been left sticking in the man.

Once he is done, he gives each of the doors out of the room a once over, and takes a moment to see if there is any noise coming from the other side.

OOC: Search +4, Disable Device +7, Appraise +4, Listen +6.

For Brioc and Octar: [bq]Octar steps into the room and takes a position to the left, his sword in hand, his bow on his back. His eyes rove across the room looking for danger.

Brioc moves in and takes a postion beside Octar. He waits quietly, content just to keep an eye on things while the rest of the group checks the room.[/bq]

OOC: Just tidying up loose ends. Feel free to grab ghost dub one of them if you want.

Dhormium is unable to determine whether the skeleton is undead. (Someone tell me if they know of a way) But it doesn't move, which seems like a good sign. The skull symbol seems like a symbol of Coeus, based on your prior encounters his his followers. The sword seems unremarkable. It is also rusted and weak.

No traps or secret doors become evident upon a search, and behind the doors, it is silent as a grave.

~Dhormium leans over to take a closer look at the pendant and the skeleton~
"Well this one bought the far quite a while ago from the looks of it. The man who killed him must have lost the need for his sword right after the killing. It might be wise to let the sword remain in it's chest. It might just prevent him from getting up when he decides to wake up" ~Dhormium chortles over the little funny~
"Shall we move on?"

Marcus of the Roma

Marcus giggles at Dhormium's joke for a moment before claming up. The idea of creeping around a hole in the ground also full of not-quite-dead people is playing on his nerves, he realises. He takes a moment to compose himself.

The image of the skeleton struggling to get up while pinned to the chair by with the sword through it chest flashes back into mind. He begins to giggle again.

"Sorry," he mutters to the others when he manages to regain his self control.

for Octar: [bq]Octar frowns at his friend, concern written all over his face. Lord thats all we need, someone going to pieces on us.

"Pull yourself together Marcus. Get a grip."[/bq]

Tullius notices Marcus' laughing and slaps him on the back. "That's the way, if you can't laugh at danger ... the tension will catch up with you one day, and kill you."

"Now, which door shall we pick? I'd say the south one ... it might be warmer." Tullius barks with laughter. "You fella's bring out the jokester in me it appears." He chuckles while he waits for the rest to decide where to go.

"C'mon Octar, a little laugh never killed anybody. And i don't think that our boney friend over there will wake up because of a few laughs and giggles."
~Dhormium walks over to the south door and takes a look~
"We could bicker about what door we're going to open, might as well just be this one"

For brioc:
"Agreed Dhormium, but maybe next time you could ease our feelings with something else. Anyway, lets take the southern door, Tullius seems quite fond of it."

ooc: i'm still having problems with the editor. i can't seem to get the colors working anymore.

south it is

The south door seems locked, but the mechanism's must have rusted, because they quickly come apart when the door is tried. Inside lying about this 20 by 20 foot cell are about a score of long dead corpses of men and women in strange, but rich, clothing. Each corpse has a silver skull pendant with turpuoise eyes, exactly like the one just found. There are numerous pieces of jewlry also scattered about. After some examination, Marcus values the jewlry at about 4000 gps.

Marcus of the Roma.

Marcus considers the balefull skulls. The gems appeal, but the Roma are a spiritual, supersticious if you like, people. Respect for the gods is deeply ingrained, and the idea of desecratinig the bodies of one of the god's servants, especially an unknown one, does not sit well.

The though of the skeleton in the other room struggling to get up doesn't give him the giggles any more.

"They seem quiet enough now, but is there any way of telling if they will raise up later? Can you sense that kind of magic?"

To Marcus, the skulls look like items of power, although he realises it is just a feeling.
