Hoax or not, seems like it could work. Although I think he would have had better luck just pouring the beer straight on the ice. Not as warm, but I suspect he'd get more mileage out of the liquid that way.

Frankly I really don't see why pee on the snow helped him in any way. Seems like a dubious story to me. Either a hoax, or a drunkard's excuse for having drank 60 bottles of beer in a row. :\
