ReHashed Sleep question.... waking someone

Sure it's been ask at least 200 times. But until some one creates a FAQ.. ( Hmm that's an Idea) I am going to have to ask it again.

Awakening a person effected by a "sleep" spell. Ya.. Ya.. slapping wounding we got that.

The description states,

Sleeping creatures are helpless. Slapping or wounding awakens an affected creature, but normal noise does not. Awakening a creature is a standard action (an application of the aid another action).

What is NORMAL noise?

I suppose the better question would be. What are some examples of ABNORMAL noise?

It doesn't say that noise awakens sleeping creatures. So the distinction between normal and abnormal noise is moot.

I could not find any other references in the SRD or the FAQs.

The sound of combat does not wake the sleeping individual.

I would imagine a SHOUT spell would, and would probably rule any spell with the Sonic descriptor would as well.

Abnormal noise is noise equivalent to slapping or wounding the sleeper. A sonic attack that deals either normal or subdual damage would qualify. I'd allow a thunderstone or other deafening noise.
