Anti-Magic / Dead Magic Areas and Supernatural Albilities
-------------------------------------------------------

Ok interesting question came up during a conversation with friends.

Dragon's Breath; Dragon Flying; Druid's Wildshape; Were-creatures Shapeshifting are all Supernatural abilities right?

Anti-Magic/Dead Magic areas supress this right?

So a Dragon can't breath or fly in these areas, and Shapeshifted creatures would revert to their natural forms correct?

Also would True Sight reveal a shifted Druid?

Yeah, I'm sorry. It was my question posted to our gaming group. So, um...if a flame war does erupt (such as people saying "oh you're so dumb this is the way it is...") feel free to aim those comments at me. I'll take the bullet.

:D

Dragon flight is not supernatural. It's extraordinary / natural. Breath weapons are supernatural, and would be supressed.

Shapeshifted creatures would revert to their natural forms.

True Seeing reveals a wild shaped druid: "sees the true form of polymorphed, changed, or transmuted things"

Just for anyone's reference:

Supernatural abilities are not subject to spell resistance, counterspells, or to being dispelled by dispel magic, and do not function in areas where magic is suppressed or negated.

and you're right patryn...flight is not listed as a supernatural ability...so it would be extraordinary or natural. But still, a dragon can't breathe fire (or acid or...) in a dead magic area?

Nope.

Breath Weapon (Su): Using a breath weapon is a standard action. Once a dragon breathes, it can’t breathe again until 1d4 rounds later. If a dragon has more than one type of breath weapon, it still can breathe only once every 1d4 rounds.

Note that I would count that the 1d4 round recovery time is also supressed. Thus, a dragon must spend 1d4 rounds outside of a null magic area in order to breath.

I always thought it was amusing that a beholder looking at another beholder with it's big eye causes the one looked at to plummet LOL no wonder they don't get along too well.

Yes yes, exactly. Cannot be dispelled or interrupted. And yet does not function in an anti-magic field or dead magic area. WTF? :D

Am I weird or does it seem like a typo? It can't be dispelled yet it doesn't work in anti-magic areas? Makes no sense to me....

Magical effects can be supernatural; or spell-like or spells.

spell like or spells can be disSPELLed, but supernatural effects are not disSPELLed

antimagic negates all magical effects
