Anyone got a good Fighter/Mage build?

What about using the Battle Sorcerer variant from Unearthed Arcana? Fighter/Battle Sorcerer / Eldritch Knight gives less spells per day and known than a straight sorcerer, but you can cast in light armor, and have a better hit die. Or straight battle sorcerer, it's a fighter mage all by itself. :)

mage armor and extended mage armor are your friends, as is mirror image.

True strike and full on power attack works nicely.

Or think of yourself as a weak fighter who uses spells for missile attacks instead of a bow.

Ranger is nice for skills and tracking but fighter is better for straight combat efficiency, even given the level 2 combat style and favored enemy.

Fighter mages are good when you have a smaller than average party as you have spells and can still fight moderately so you will survive being ambushed in hand to hand while most straight mages will die when goblins over run their rear rank position.

I'm playing a ranger/wizard/eldritch knight in a solo game and it is going well.

You could also take a level of spellsword from Complete Warrior, the first level will give you the ability to ignore 10% arcane spell failure, and grants spell progression.

It requires +4 BAB, kn(Arcana) 6, proficiency in all simple and martial weapons, and all armor (light, med, and heavy).

This is very apt and true. So apt, in fact, that it has been mentioned a good deal of times already so far.
