Did anyone else notice this about Star Wars?

I was thinking the other day what made the originals so good, and this came to me:

Millenium Falcon
Star Destoyer
Death Star
X Wing Fighter
A Wing
Y Wing
Tie Fighters
Tie Bombers
Slave 1

The vehicles in the original trilogy WERE characters in and of themselves, and dearly loved or hated. I can't name a single vehicle in the new series. I can name super battle droids and droideka though, but they were pretty cool. Did anyone else feel that way? Maybe i was just a kid and a bigger fan back then.

It because they changed them for every movie. The original Star Destroyers looked the same for the whole thing. They changed them here. Padme had like 5 differnet ships it seems. None of the fighters where the same either. The only cool one was the troop transports in Attack of the Clones. I liked those.

[Spoiler Question] Please tell me they did not change the Jedi Starfighter in ROTS, even though I truly believe they should have integrated the hyperspace drive?

I put the answer in the first spoiler tag, in case someone else reading this doesn't want to know.
[sblock]Yes, the Jedi Starfighter underwent another design change. Sadly, one of the changes did not include a hyperdrive.[/sblock]
This tag contains some information on two other spaceships seen in the opening battle sequence.
[sblock]On the up side, we get to see what may be the precursor to the X-Wing in the battle above Coruscant. Their part of the escort for Obi-Wan and Anakin. Also, the Republic capitol ships are looking more and more like the Star Destroyers we see in Episode IV.[/sblock]

Sorry for the multiple tags, but I don't want to spoil the movie for anyone who hasn't seen it yet, and doesn't want to know.

They changed things up a lot in the IV-VI, too. Y-wings were bit players in IV and VI, TIE Bombers, airspeeders, and Slave I in V, etc. What is different, I think, is that a lot of big plot events tended to focus a little more around space combat.

* IV -- Opening scene, Falcon escaping Mos Eisley, Falcon escaping the Death Star, destroying the Death Star
* V -- airspeeders on Hoth, Falcon's long-running flight from the Star Destroyers
* VI -- speederbike chase, second Death Star battle

Conversely, I-III seemed to focus more on hand-to-hand and ground combat, especially lightsaber fights.

Also, I think part of it is that when the first movies came out, it was light-years beyond anything else that had been done. Nowadays, we've seen a bazillion sci-fi movies and TV shows, and its natural that the ships don't seem as new or cool.

Now this could be true too. But then again, i was watching Clone Wars yesterday and the Sith's spaceship that looked like a dragonfly was damn cool. And i've seen a bazillion sci-fi movies.

Dooku's ship in Clones was pretty good too. There just wasn't any fun junkers like the ol' Falcon to kick around. Although seeing the gradual transition from old design to new design was interesting.

I'm not going to pussy-foot around with spoiler tags; the thread title is warning enough. If you don't want to be spoiled, don't read threads about Star Wars.

If it did, that would make little sense. It's clear that you can spot the evolution of the "Jedi" starfighter into the TIE fighter, and we've always known that TIE fighters were short ranged ships without hyperdrives.

I don't know how all of those can be up sides and yet seeing the precursor for the TIE fighter is not.

also remember after RotS the empire can squash competition and variation ... unlike republic times when there might be more companies vying for Republic contracts.

the new Jedi fighter is pretty cool, and the original does make an appearance too ... but I can't say any more (other than it has blue markings)

the Gunship used in AotC is still around too ... kinda like a Huey Helicoptor

Until the TIE x1 prototype (Vader's TIE in ANH).

Well, right, but that's later. I'm talking about a clear evolution from Attack of the Clones era "Jedi" starfighters into Revenge of the Sith era "Jedi" starfighters that Anakin and Obiwan are flying at the beginning to very similar proto-TIE fighters that they show near the very end of the movie, to the full-blown basic TIE of the first movie.
