This was an attempt at a "Read this first" thread for new players. It had a pointer to the atlas and almanac, but nothing else in the way of location related information.

(Adventure) Slaying the Dreamer [Judge: Uriel]

This was a setting that could be almost anywhere, as the PCs were teleported to a distant land, and saw relatively few landmarks once there.

  • A wizard named Janos lives in Ushad. His house contains an underground room that with a door on the north wall that leads to a hallway, then to an iron-clad door, then up some stairs to a small room at the surface, with an unlocked iron-clad door leading to the outside. This door is usually wizard locked.
  • Mirrek, the enemy of the wizard of Ushad named Janos, lives a mere 15 minute walk through some woods away from him.
  • Mirrek lives in a a grand mansion. It is lit by two continual flames by the front door, a heavy oak door with arcane carvings. There are at least 2 windows in the front of the house.
  • Mirrek’s house has a room with 6 beds in the southeast corner with a window, a kitchen in the southwest corner with a window, and a smithy in the northwest corner with a window.
  • There are several tree stumps in the clearing around Mirrek’s house.
  • The entrance room of Mirrek’s home holds a magnificent three-tiered fountain. A passage to the right leads to a guard station.
  • Moving down the west hall from the entrance room of Mirrek’s house, one encounters a living room, a guest room, then slave quarters.
  • One door in the west hallway of Mirrek’s home is flanked by statues of two winged monsters.
  • Beyond the slave quarters in Mirrek’s home is a wood storage room. A door in this room leads outside.
  • Behind the door flanked by two winged statues in Mirrek’s house lies a 25-foot long hall that ends in a "T". The right hand part of the "T" runs another 15 feet before ending at a door which leads to a 20 by 35-foot library/alchemy room.
  • The left hand part of the "T" at the end of the hall behind the door flanked by two winged statues in Mirrek’s house leads to a luxurious bedroom.
  • In Mirrek’s house, beyond the slave quarters lies the kitchen, the smithy, and the guard quarters.

(Tavern) City of Orussus, The Red Dragon Inn V

The usual stuff for a tavern thread -- some info about the Red Dragon Inn itself, and some other stuff as well.

  • There are several bulletin boards in the Red Dragon Inn.
  • One of the bartenders at the Red Dragon Inn is named Curly.
  • In Orussus, crowns are sometimes called "Ennies".
  • The door to the Red Dragon Inn has several handles set at different heights.
  • There is a place in ENWorld called West Chumbershire. Chumbershire is famous for monasteries, one of which is the Pushiri Monastery.
  • There is a place in ENWorld called Lhondaio.
  • Pancakes are served at the Red Dragon Inn.
  • A typical room at the Red Dragon Inn is small and is furnished with two beds, a table and a couple of chairs.
  • A fence can often be found in the Red Dragon Inn for those wishing to exchange valuables for coin.

Discussion -- (Tavern) City of Orussus, The Red Dragon Inn V

Just a couple of things here. First, we have a 4th monastery in the game. Granted, it came from a character's background, but then so did the Monastery of Roaring Waters.

Second, the RDI serves pancakes (sausages, too). Ok, you'd expect that, since it's a "full service inn". But what I want to know is how Edwyd's Victuals, 3 doors down, can stay in business with their "King's Feast" for 3 sp that includes griddle cakes. Wouldn't the hundreds of patrons of the Red Dragon Inn just take advantage of the pancakes and sausages there? I suppose people would tire of nothing but Joe's fare after a while...

Actually, it just appeared in a song. It isn't clear from what I wrote how many centuries old that song is, or whether the monastery is/was a real one, although I think it is clear that their is an established monastic tradition in Chumbershire.

I'll remind Sparky about that one again.
Edit - actually, Sparky hasn't been around for a few weeks now...I'll let it life for some time so we can ask when/if Sparky returns, or kill it if it takes too long.

General Discussion Thread IV
--There are floating islands in LEW

The Goblin King's Description of Orussus
--An ancient city that lies at the center of the world. It relies on trade to prosper which is provided in spades due to its location at the nexus of several land and sea trade routes. The docks stretch like fingers into its large sheltered bay. The climate is warm with very gentle winters. One major attraction is the [Red Dragon Inn]. Many an adventure has started there.
Like most ancient cities it is built upon the bones of long gone cities. The large sewer system was inherited from the previous settlement and could provide service for a city twice the size of Orussus. As such there are hundreds of ways in and out of the city one can use without being seen. The sewers are far from safe however as they are inhabited by bandits, thieves and even the occasional fell creature. As one goes deeper and deeper underground the architecture become more obviously crafted by non-humans.

Followed by some info from CS
--The High Court of Orussus sits on a stepped marble base on the northwest corner of the city. In front of the facility is a granite statue of a massive dwarf wielding a huge spiked club in his left hand as if the man was dragging it behind him. The statue is labeled, "In the name of Morg, In Service of Orussus." The court itself is a huge granite work originally a temple for a bastion of good-aligned minotaurs that ruled this region hundreds of years ago. The massive doors, meant to impress even a giants stature, are a sign to their history. The only religious symbols that adorn this simple location now are that of the horn-like columns that act as the superstructure for the domed building, and the statement across the dome written in giant, "Honor be damned, we live to be free."

CS also had this to say
--I've always imagined Orussus as a society ruled by a very strict courts system that controls virtually anything going on in the city, but they put such a high value on their own freedoms, personal freedoms, religious freedoms, free trade, and freedoms of expression that the law itself is founded in these values. Though the ruling parties might be considered mostly lawful neutral, and the legal system is supposed to be quite a pain for merchants and such, they don't press the same degree of control on personal liberties and rights.

That said, attempting to kill someone should still have dire consequences...

-This map was givin as a possible map for Orussus, even though it was said that Orussus is possibly bigger and walled MAP
