Apparently, Planescape should have offended Eric's Grandmother

from an article on the etymology of british vulgarity

The abusive term 'Berk' also derives from this word, being cockney rhyming slang, short for 'Berkshire Hunt'.

The link, while certainly interesting, wasn't appropriate (i.e., "clean"), so I removed it. -Darkness

The word has Germanic cognates including (...) possibly High German (Kotze meaning prostitute)

Never heard that. Kotze is vulgar for vomit.
