IC: Just another ordinary day, the news blaring on telivisions across the building, so many scents of cooking food that all the world's cuisines seemed to be all contained in your one block, the woman down the hall and her burning sausages and the new family above seemed to be cooking with enough cumin to summon the god of Curry. But, over all it was just another, standard work night, feet up and half listening to the life outside, cars whizzing by, kids playing in the coming darkness. There's a cat out there someone, calling in it's raucous way to be let in, the tuneless mewls accompainied by scratching. That's until the lights go off, no warning, no fizzle of the fuse, just plunging, surrounding dark and that cat doesn't seem to be mewling any more, it's screaming in blood-curdling fear and the food smells just make the air too hot and too heavy...Where's that flash light? Where are the sounds of families? Screams interrupted by the sound of a liquid spattering against a wall a floor below you.

OOC: The first choices you make are totally up to you, whether you choose to search for the fuse box, escape through the front door, or hide in the elevator.

As for the layout of the apartment, it's twenty stories high with five traditional apartment rooms on each floor. It has an elevator as well as stairs that begin from the bottom and reach the roof. The five heroes (you all, of course :) ) all reside on the eighth floor of the building.

If any more information is needed, please ask. Now, if everyone's ready, we'll begin, using the Invisible Castle dice program, of course. Let's go!

"Crap..." Jack sits in the darkness a moment staring at his tiny TV, extra pitiful in it's silence...

He stands, grabs his cane, and heads toward the circuts. Ignoring the sounds, brushing them off as he has seen to much in his life to care

Tycho was in the middle of replying to a post on an obscure message board thread dealing with Fortean anomolies, when the screen winked out without so much as a kiss good night. He sat in the dark, quietly, for a moment, listening to the tormented cry of a feline, and what screams came from below. Rising, he skirted the crumpled balls of newsprint scattered about the floor, along the walls and doorways, and in the corners.

Early warning sytem for the down and out, he chuckled, without humor. His hand dipped into his backpack, the only item of note, besides the cheap card table holding a secondhand Dell, a mattress with a flat pillow, and new blue and green striped sheets purchased for him by a young NYU student, before she had stopped calling him. Tycho's hand emerged with a flashlight, which he left off. His right hand checked for the knife in his boot. He stands near the mattress.

A glance at the window tells him what he wants to know.

[OOC: Is the blackout limited to the building, with streetlights and other signs of electricity coming in through the window, or is everything outside also dark?]

Chen Jiu fidgeted. Man I'm going to be late again. The boss is going to have me fired! he thought to himself. He still wore the delivery costume, and the Kungpao Chicken in Cashew with the Sweet and Sour Pork ribs was getting cold. Where was #5-72? The apartment's numbering scheme had not made sense. Damn it; he better not get a parking ticket again! He couldn't afford it.

Erin is sat at her desk sipping a cup of coffee and thoughtfully tapping a pen against her cheek as she tries to compose a letter to her parents when the lights go out. She sighs ruefully and gives a resigned smile as she puts down her pen and takes another drink of coffee, then gets up and fumbles her way across the room to where she keeps a few candles. After stubbing her toe twice on her way across the room and groping around trying to find matches, she finally succeeds on getting a candle lit, and then pulls out a chair and begins changing her lightbulb. It doesn't really occur to her that it could be anything more than the bulb, since after all the light was the only thing she noticed go out.

OOC: The blackout is taking place only in the building at the moment, Erudite, and the windows allow for the light outside, but it's reaching nightfall, and the sun will be setting soon, so enjoy the little bit of light you might have while you can. And, LF, circuits are the same as the fusebox, right, or is that something different? o_O

She composes herself swings her pack onto her shoulder and steps outside. "Mmm, what a beautiful eveining." She takes off on her usual hour long evening jog.

Tycho hears his neighbor bang her way down the stairs, swearing in what he gueses is Portuguese or something. A quick glance through the peep hole in his door confirms that it is indeed dark in the hallway. Thinking of the cold beer in the 'fridge, and the possibility of it remaining cold for much longer, he quietly steps into the kitchen, opening the dark rectangle of the door, and feeling around for a bottle. Thinking for a moment, he grabs another bottle, listens at his door, then opens and shuts it as he steps into the hall. Thinking that eight flights down is better than twelve flights up, he cautiously heads down the stairs, twin bottles in his left hand, hand trailing the stairway wall with his right.

[OO: Does he hear, see, anything suspicious?]

Darkness filled the apartment, still as the air, interrupted only by the dim sunlight passing through the sparse, dusty windows on the eighth floor. It even seemed to condense around you, like the storm clouds in the cartoons looming over the character wherever he went, almost following you.

Laera was just ahead of Tycho, and Tycho just ahead of Jack as they all made their way to the floor below for their own, different purposes.

You hear breathing, rapid breathing echoing through the hall leading to the bottom of the stairs. Footsteps, faster and faster, and a low murmur, and you could have sworn you clearly heard the trembling voice of a frightened, young man shout "S**t!"

Sure enough, you're stopped just as you reach the bottom of the steps by two young men and a young lady.

"Run back up!" cries the woman, but the men are much less polite, pushing through until they reach the top of the steps. "Turn around!"

Tears gleam in the faint light shining through a window just behind her.

OOC: Yeah, so you're not quite out of the building yet, Frukathka, unless your character began on a lower floor than eight, which she resides on, and if you did, please correct me.

Eluvan, you can hear the murmur from your room, and the loud stomping of the two young men running down the halls.

And, Krug which floor are you on, anyway? o_O

"What the Hell?" swears Tycho. Alert to the possibility of danger, he moves back up the stairs along with the woman. "What's going on? A break-in?" The building had experienced a drug related incident a few months ago. Tycho had heard about it endlessly from one of the elderly residents who positioned herself religiously on the front steps whenever the weather was too hot to remain inside. He quickly notes the woman's and the mens' appearance, and anything unusual that might give him a clue.
