Intelligent Golem item?

Intelligent Golems....

A Wizard with caster level 15 or better, and a golem manual.

a) do you think a golem could become an intelligent item?

Intelligent Item Creation

Golem Manual

Golems

b) Normally a golem is Int -, and thus has no skills or feats. Normally an intelligent magic item has no HD, and thus no skills or feats. Would you give an intelligent golem item (with both HD and Int) skills and feats?

Construct Traits
'most constructs are mindless and gain no skill points or feats'

Creature Improvement by Type
'1. All types have a number of feats equal to 1 + 1 per 3 Hit Dice.
2. As long as a creature has an Intelligence of at least 1, it gains a minimum of 1 skill point per Hit Die.
3. Creatures with an Intelligence score of "—" gain no skill points or feats.'

Cheers,
Alice

The RAW provide for creating advanced golems, so I don't think it would be unreasonable to think that an intelligent golem is also possible (there are other constructs with Int scores), and I have thought that using the intelligent item rules as a guideline would be a good place to start.

Intelligent golems should get feats and skills, just like any other construct with an Int score.

Hmm.... anything indicating that the golem thus created would be loyal? I mean.... really.... it inherits the Creator's alignment, and is utterly true to it's alignment.... so a Chaotic probably wouldn't get a loyal companion (does whatever seems right to it), but a Lawful might that the orders of one's Maker are to be followed (possibly "without question" if Lawful-Neutral.....)

Could really bring new meaning to "Items Against Characters" though.....

Golems are creatures, not items. Although they follow many of the rules of items, they are not items- and thus are not subject to becoming "intelligent items".

The animating force for a golem is a spirit from the Elemental Plane of Earth. The process of creating the golem binds the unwilling spirit to the artificial body and subjects it to the will of the golem’s creator.
I tend to agree actually. You might be able to argue that part of the artificial body had intelligent item powers, without control over the body. But even that could be ruled incompatible with the 'unwilling spirit' that inhabits the body.
