Which side is toward us, what sort of lock is it, and how stable does the whole setup look?
The structure looks fairly sturdy. The lock is on the side facing you, on the right hand side. It appears to be a standard lock, made of iron like the rest of the barrier. Almost like what you'd find on a cell door.

Having belatedly realized that locks are occasionally left open, Tor checks the gate just in case to see if it will swing open.

Fimble shakes his head. "There are spells that can open locks, but they are beyond me."

"They are beyond me as well. We could eat through the lock with some acid, that should be quiet enough. That is, if anybody thought to bring some. Or if we want to spend the time we could go back and get some at the market."

OOC: Exactly what do alchemist's fires do? Do they explode, are they loud, might they blow a lock to pieces, or do they just spray liquid fire everywhere?

ooc: They burn, but don't explode. Won't help with a metal gate.

"Well, sounds like it's time to make some noise. Be ready for an attack."

If no one objects, Tor will begin to wind up with his chain, to strike at the lock. Full power attack.

Tor hefts his chain and, despite the close quarters, manages to dismantle the lock after a handfull of noisy strikes.

[sblock=crunchystuff: ]
Tor 1st strike on lock = 12
Tor 2nd strike on lock = 20, damage = 18
Tor 3rd strike on lock = 17, damage = 16

Lock stats: AC = 16 (halfway between diminutive & fine), Hardness = 10, HP = 10[/sblock]

Due to the close quarters (and possibility of wererats) Tor stows his chain and brings out the scimitar. He moves on cautiously, the rest of the group a solid distance behind him in case of traps.
