EN World The Play By Post FAQ: Last Updated 11/16/03

In a lot of my games, I quite literally do "Players go" then "NPCs go". I do this because it means that if players 1 and 2 are around first, they can just post what they want to do, I'll resolve it, and move forward. This has obvious flaws and disadvantages as well, but it's a compromise I choose to make.

Thanks for the insight! I think I will go with this method. Do you also do the initiative rolls for all your players? I think that could save time too.

Some people do "side" initiative. Everyone rolls and the sides average out. Higher average goes first.

I actually have toyed with the idea of "once per DM post". It does mean, though, that those who can post more frequently might get more actions if they can post more than around once a day, though. I ultimately went more with side initiative. Though when the first combat rolled out, the monsters all rolled poorly and went last anyway.
