Into Khybers Gate

"I've never been to this part of Lower Sharn, but Khyber's Gate should be down from here." replies the Kenku. He'll try to pick out a likely staircase or lift down. If not he'll ask in a passerby in a flawless Lower Tavick's Landing accent.

"I think there should..." Sedar begins, looking for familiar spots.

(Knowledge local +6 as well. If he and Bloodtalon fail, he'll aid in Gathering Info, also +6)

Johanel is simply relying on the greater abilities of his allies. Outside of the tavern, he marvels at the towers.

Aah, the magic that built this city. What I wouldn't do for a tenth of that power.

Sedar remembers speaking with a goblin who worked in the lower reaches of Sharn. He mentioned that work crews used large Elevators to move cargo supplies down to the Cogs. Looking around, he spots a group of warforged moving a heavy cart. Following them across the landing they lead you down a large tunnel where other carts are converging. Soon you come to a large door where a line has formed. You can hear a constant rumbling as massive drums let out the cable attached to the elevator. Before long the doors open and you are able to squeeze aboard with some of the ore carts.

The descent into the lower regions is unremarkable. Through gaps in the protective cage of the elevator you can see the stone of the shaft walls move by at a fast pace. The temperature is noticibly higher here compared to the colder, windblown streets of the Towers. Over the rumble of the cart's descent you can hear larger machinery in motion somewhere below you.

There is a brief rush of air as the cart exits the shaft and descends the final distance guided by steel rails. You are in a large cavern with smooth, artificial sides and wide tunnels branching off in every direction. There are a lot of warforged here with a few humans directing the work crews. The carts are quickly unloaded and a group of passangers board to return to the surface for the next load. You move off the cart out of the way as you try to get your bearings. The room is poorly lit by a few mage lights high in the ceiling and the air is a little smokey. Two of them are set on either side of giant femurs painted black. The word "BlackBones" is scrawled underneath it.

"We have no idea where in Blackbones this disreputable target of ours is supposed to be, do we? Sedar, lets work the crowd and get out bearings." says Bloodtalon, intending to start his info gathering right there at the entrance.

Johanel is fascinated by everything around him. The sights, the smells, the people... He spent the first half of his life as a spoiled member of a dragonmarked house, and the second half of his life as a spoiled student in a University. He takes a closer look at the giant femurs.

Wow, these must have come from Xendrik. I wonder why they are black?

He also looks around for any sign of what tunnel leads to where.

"Indeed, but carefully. We need to either look tough, or like the walls. Modus - pretending to seek slightly frowned on susbstances, nothing illegal?" Sedar whispers back.

"Alright, though down here we might have better luck looking for Dream Lily than we would something like acid or fenced goods." replies Bloodtalon. He will take Sedar's advice and begin working the crowd to try and find some information about the location of their target.

Johanel pulls up the hood of his cloak, and follows Bloodtalon and Sedar. After hearing the whispers of his travelling companions, he decides that perhaps Blackbones isn't the place for study and curious exploration.

Moving through the crowd and trying to appear nonchalant, you spend a few minutes asking questions. Most of the warforged passing through this area seem to have little interest in anything outside of their daily jobs. Eventually you find one that seems a little brighter than the other models working here. It says that Khyber's Gate lies on the far side of this district. It tells you that this district is the industrial section like Ashblack to the west. Here the great forges are powered by the molten lava flows that well up from the depths. He gives you sketchy directions and moves off to direct a team of other warforged transporting an ore cart.

Moving through the sooty tunnels you can feel the temperature rising. The sound of distant pounding grows louder until you can actually feel the vibration through the soles of your feet. Several times the tunnel opens up and you see the vast industrial complex that fuels the economy of Breland. Large hoppers of metal are dumped into vats to be melted down, refined, then transported down a complex maze of conveyers to be cooled and shaped. Hundreds of warforged toil here in the heat with mechanical precision and unwavering focus on the task at hand. Here at least, they seem more like golems than sentiant beings.

The tunnels eventually lead you away from the heart of the industrial district and farther north. The tunnels are still covered in soot but now you begin to see more trash like discarded cloth and bits of wood. The number of warforged start to thin only to be replaced by humanoids of all shapes and sizes. Some scurry through the tunnels on their own errands and avoid your gaze, others openly watch you with suspicion. There are many beggars here lying at every tunnel intersection. They raise their hands at you as you pass begging for anything you can spare. They seem to thin out the closer you get to the next district as if even they would not choose to live too close to this area. Finally, you reach an area where several tunnels meet in a massive cavern. Ramshackle booths have been set up here where various humanoids have set up to try and make a meager living selling goods to anyone that passesby. At the far end you can see large buildings made from mismatched materials possibly serving as living space. Many goblins fill this cavern moving quickly out of the way of the larger beings. Several merchants have already spotted you and are calling out for your attention and for you to come visit their booths. A gaggle of goblin children suddenly appear and run up to you. Each of them holds out their hands and cries out for you to help them and give them money. Their loud begging causes a few heads to turn your way.
