It is too late for the craft contest. It has started on the very first day and the crafter works during six day. On the seventh day, they display there creation which is evaluated. Also, the crafter had to be selected by there respective guild, as each guild had the right to present 2 candidates per level (apprentice and master).
The only open contest is the Maze which is about to start. I'l mainatin the subscription fee as every player have done it. There was a way to avoid them if you would work for the tournement organization (sidequest) which many player have done, but so near the end, the organization have all what they need (in other word, I'm running out of idea for side quests)
