Who's best in this scenario?

TYPO5478

First Post
You and your 9th level party were on a mission to rescue a political captive from a neighboring country's prison. Unfortunately, you've all been captured and are now imprisioned yourselves. All of your equipment has been confiscated, including your clothing. Now you wear only a poorly woven tunic that barely accomplishes the task of maintaining your modesty. Each of you is in an individual cell in, quite literally, a dungeon. You are able to hear each of your teammates, but only one or two is actually in line of sight. The only items in your cell are a musty bedroll and a clay chamber pot. Armed guards are posted at each end of the cell block. Each of you has been interrogated once so far (escorted to, during and from by two guards), and though you haven't yet given up any information about yourselves or your mission, you're not sure how long it will take your captors to start using more "pursuasive" methods. You are sure, however, that they are particularly resistant to mundane methods of diplomacy (short of telling them what they want to know). You're also sure that you need to escape soon, as every day that passes is another that they may kill the object of your mission... or worse, you.

At this point, what character decisions (classes, skills, feats, spells, etc.) do you wish you had made? Core only, please.

Teleport springs to mind. But, dimension door or fireball would probably work in a pinch.

So, Eschew Materials. :)

EDIT: I do know that DD is only V, but I'm not sure about the others.

Monk or sorcerer with a few critical metamagic feats based on my spell selection.

Short of that a rogue or bard with good charisma may be able to trick the guards. Also useful for a bard is if they had taken a Perform skill that does not require an instrument (dancing, singing, oration).

well.. since the wizard is deprived of his spellbook i guess he could only wish to have taken spell mastery feat instead of some metamagic rubbish. :) or at least to have been born a spontaneous caster.
actually a cleric with travel/trickery domains would do.

Bard, and mesmerise song when they come to check your cries of "ive found a secret door"...

or a particularly nasty rogue/ guild rogue/ assassin of mine who would happly sell his mate's out for freedom (and then go on a rather vindictive vengence spree for being captured and tortured - probbably freeing the rest of the party as a (minor) benefit in the process.

There seems to be the makeing's of a garott in the cell, and the (used - hes rather petty and cruel too) chamberpot could easily become a make shift shiv.

He would genuinly be offering up the information for exchange, so sense motive should show him to be telling the truth (good bluff too if necessary). Once in a position to hurt something with an exelent chance of success, eg one guard in front/ one behind, he would switch to murder mode. Garott the fellow in front and tie the garott off (suprise round) and then cut the other guards throat. Theres also the posibility of pick pocket on the cell keys if he dosnt fancy his chances to free the self propelled bag of hit-points he calls a brother.

Rogue: Potentially can improvise lockpicks, bluff guards, et cetera.
Bard: Bluff gaurds, Bardic Music (if the Bard has either Summon Instrument or a no-instrument Perform skill)
Wizard: Hmm... what do I still have prepared from yesterday? Spell Mastery(Dimension Door + Others) is good too.
Sorceror: Ah, they took my spell components pouch? Drat. It means I'm limited to just my Empowered Scorching Ray, Dimension Door, and a few others. Oh, wait, I picked up Eschew Materials. Hello Fireball, good to see you again. Lightning Bolt could be more fun, though <sigh>.
Fighter: Ah, Combat Expertise, Improved Unarmed Strike, and Power Attack. Goodbye, Mr. Door.
Barbarian: See Fighter, plus Rage.
Monk: Umm..... Flurry of Blows vs. Door?
Druid: Wildshape. Be Large and in charge. Natural Spell is always a good choice. Or just Zap away. You'd be amazed at how many Druid spells don't require a Divine Focus or a spell comonents pouch.
Paladin: See Fighter.
Cleric: Slay Living, Inflict Light Wounds (Mass), Greater Command, Blindness/Deafness, Searing Light, Inflict Critical Wounds, Inflict Serious Wounds, Bestow Curse, Enthrall, Entropic Shield, Obscurring Mist, Shield of Faith. Invisibility and teleportational magics via domains are just icing on the cake. Okay, may have some issues with actually getting past the door without them, but hey......
Ranger: See Fighter.

Much better, of course, if everyone can do this at the same time for a right proper jailbreak, but basically any class can be built with an eye towards such situations.

hehe, only Hyp could've turned a Cursed Sword into a good thing. :p

Is it possible to further enchant Cursed items? How much would it cost to turn that -2 into a +0... and would it be possible to raise it to a +5?
