2 Q's: Skills and Feats Magic System and...

I have two questions. first off, does anyone know of any good skills and feats magic system, one along the lines of Star wars or the Ken Hood Psionics ,that I might be able to combine with StarWars or Ken Hoods to create a comprehensive mystical skills and feats system?

My second question is this. I have a specialist Transmuter who wants to go into the field of magical gene manipulation along the lines of the Simic Guild in MtG. that means making monsters and magical crossbreeding. I have the crossbreeding book that Mongoose put out on order but get the feeling that it is just straight across shoving two creatures together and I am looking for something a little more piecemeal than that. Are there any other spells, suplements, or books that have that sort of thing in it? Homebrew stuff is good as well.

Thanks,

Jon

Lords of Madness, and I believe Fiend Folio, has rules for grafts and a couple of related things, which might be what you're looking for there. LoM includes the Fleshwarper PrC, too. I like that one, though I've HRed it.

And to the first question, True Sorcery (by Green ROnin) could be the thing. Elements of Magic (any of the three) might work, also.

Libris Mortis has a few undead grafts, treated essentially the same as the eye of vecna, though obviously of different sources and powers.

Thanks for the replies. I had forgotten about grafts. I may have to pick up lords of madness after all.

As for True Sorcery and elements of magic? Those are a little too magical for me. I want something a little more tame and low key.

Bastion Press' Oathbound setting has something called prestige races, which are a lot like grafts in that they give you monstrous abilities for XP. The core book has about a dozen different categories and some of the supplements have more.. I don't know which ones because I never got into the setting. Dragon magazine ran an article based on prestige races a few years back, in 304.

I remember Magic of Eberron also had some grafts that were decent.

The skill/feat-based magic systems I've seen have all been very disappointing.
