Ultimate Magus actually being ultimate.

Go straight wizard or sorceror. Take either Alacritous Cogitaion or Arcane Preparation, respectively. Take Ultimate Magus. Now, how does this work when you gain +1 prep class/+1 spontaneous class? Is this 2 caster levels for the price of one? :]

I understand that these levels do not stack. So even if you could apply them in this way (which I think is ruled out based on the prep wording), you still get +1 to a single class which, while decent, isn't that amazing either.

Just as with the Dread Necromancer w/ Southern Magician: if you don't have levels in the class, you don't get any advancement.

If you're really keen on making this one work, you'd need one level in each class, and THEN use feats to mess around with entry requirements.

Note the word 'Spellbook' in the requirements. Arcane prep does not get around that.

No. Doesn't work that way as the previous responses state. Also, it's really not the way the class is intended to be played.

Thanks,
