If you can't stand the heat, dance.

If you can’t stand the heat, dance.

I had a pretty good time and I do enjoy your company,
But I’ve lost track; are we friends, or are you hunting me?

I was having an evening out, chasing girls with the boys,
Nice views all around, but most were just toys,
I saw sat at the bar of the place a girl with a perfect smile,
And, just like that, my world shifted sideways by a mile.

She was so damn flawless, what else could I’ve done?
I had to go over and haha! Began the fun!
We frolicked to your pretty and verbose little game,
You, you smart little girl, are very far from tame!

I keep thinking, girl, that you’re so damn pretty,
And worrying, you know, that you’re using it against me.

“Hey, gorgeous lady,” the perfect way to start,
She retorted, “And then what, I throw to you my heart?”
“Or maybe just a bone. Can we talk a moment alone?”
She smirked. I winced. She stared while I droned.

Me, being the perfect gentleman, I decided to entertain her,
But, by heavens, what cutting replies! That girl was a tiger!
She left me by the wayside, no longer a contender,
I must have said something to so mortally offend her?

Conversation’s wandering, girl, all around the place,
And I’m anticipating, little girl, your slap to my face.

I took a moment. It’s not what I’d expected.
Had my top quality pulling technique been so neglected?
I had to have this girl – and what game to relish!
She was a diamond, craftsman cut, left for me to polish.

You cut me up, woman,
I bleed blind for you.
I’ll feel my way, woman,
I’ve a need for you.

You’re pretty hot, woman,
Will you burn me too?
Perhaps, woman,
I should just get away from you.

Words would never’ve touched her; so I switched to stick and stone,
Such hard rejection, woman, no man here could condone,
It seemed you had experience, and I respected you the more,
So I didn’t give you a choice – I lead you to the floor.

A diamond that’s been treated like glass and shattered,
Looked at but never seen, all vicious edges and tattered.

To my horrified surprise, you offered no resistance,
Indeed, we were soundless, and danced the entire distance,
And as the dance floor eventually (but gradually) thinned,
We never stopped – au contraire, then did everything begin.

For you, graceful woman, I’ll do anything or more,
That’s right, sublime lady, you know the “what for?”,
We’ll dance and glow until dancing is a chore,
I wish that somehow we could have danced forevermore.

Yes, we danced, hands on hips, and salsa’d until noon,
But no! It’s getting late, and I’ve got to leave soon.

I left you solitary on the floor, and with you remains my passion,
And I tear at my mind, because there was no reason!
I must have done the right thing? I long for the warmth inside you.
The temerity, the perfection, the way that none could bind you.

But you were too dangerous, I could sense it in your breath!
Your solitary kiss was herald to my death.
Nevertheless, please return, I wait for you entranced,
Because, with you gone, I’ve none with whom to dance.

Somewhere out there, I must find what I adore,
And we’ll dance and we’ll dance and we’ll live forever, just once more.

p.s. Can I take this opportunity to praise all the other works placed here? There is not a single one that I don't like very much. They are all quality and an enjoyable read.

(( OOC note: If occasion permits, try reading this one outloud. ))
