He feels considerably better, with 21 hit points.
Readying his hammer, he cautiously peeps through his barricade.

Please tell me there aren't monsters lined up for breakfast...

Excellent!

Now it's time for breakfast...if there was any food left.
And making torches.

And disposing of the corpse of the...Michael closes his eyes for a moment and prays for strength.

The corpse is gone, isn't it?

He opens one eye cautiously, looking around...

Nope. Michael was out.

"Great."
Michael tightens his belt.

Water, torches, a brief exploration of the mine.
At this rate he's going to have to go to town whether he wants to or not.

It seems uncharitable, but he hopes the patrol died quickly and near the entrance of the mine.

Michael packs his gear, hobbles his horse, and makes for either the nearest water source or the nearest stand of pine trees, whichever is closer.
He needs food and water, then torches, then a quick visit to the mine.
Frankly, he expects to be fleeing from the things he met last night in fifteen minutes of mine exploration, so he's not expecting much time spent on that.

(OK, Surivival check: Michael can use the skill untrained, with his wisdom bonus. Get along in the wild is a DC 10 check. Michael also has a detect poison and Purify food and drink orison available, which he will use on stuff as his sense of pessimism dictates.
Michael's Survival check (1d20+3=6)

After missing breakfast and lunch, Michael decides he needs to lose weight anyway.
He cuts a few pine knots for torches and enters the mine.

"What is it, Rocky?"
Michael looks at the crystal.

"Has Timmy fallen into the well?"
Sometimes it's hard to tell when Michael is using transcendant sarcasm or being stupid.

He does, however, follow the crystal, keeping a weather eye out for any Fallonese soldier corpses.
Or toothy monsters.
Or food.

It's a wonder he manages to follow the crystal.
