S2: War in Vastermarch - Completed

This adventure starts out as a journey for Talbin, Nodis, Rasereit & Ogrin. They don't start all together, but they should join up soon enough. Even though the characters won't know what each other is up to at first, I won't be putting anything in sblocks. There's no real spoilers here.

Talbin.
His shopping done, Talbin begins walking back to the Red Dragon Inn, feeling dispirited about how boring its been lately. As he walks he hears a tune being played down an alley. It's a beautiful song, slow and sad, plucked on a lute.

Talbin turns into the alley and sees a gaily dressed half-elf, his hair turning white at the temples, strumming away, seemingly lost in thought. Talbin realizes that is is Volidar Stormblade, the Bard who is often seen around the Red Dragon, listening to stories told by the adventurers who frequent the tavern, and sometimes contributing his own.

Adventure Summary
[sblock]
This adventure takes place in the Northern Vastermarch. For various reasons, four adventurers are heading North, near the town of Braeholl. Their small town is attacked as they sleep in a small inn. The heroes kill numerous orcs and move to the hill fort over looking the town with some villagers they saved. There they kill the orc leaders, and their minotaur bodyguard, thus disrupting the invasion in that area.

They then escort the surviving villagers to the closest town, Braeholl. On the way, the meet the group from S1, and are attacked by another orc force, as well as an ettin, three ogres, and a half-orc mystic theurge named Tharok, who demand the group yield “the weapon’ to them. During the battle, the Paladin, Torvin Arkenthrasher, who was accompanying the S1 group is struck down after acting suspiciously. Two ‘merchants’ who had been accompanying the caravan turn out to be assassins met earlier by the S1 group, Lothar and Sangster. Unbeknownst to the group, these two assassins earlier confronted a different set of PCs in M3: Assassin’s knot. These two escape the PCs a third time, during the chaos of the battle. They evidently know Torvin, thoug the nature of that relationship is unknown.

After defeating this orcs in this second battle, the group reach Braeholl. There they get healed and pursue their individual missions. Banion and Talbin find Banion’s ‘uncle’ Poto Knezer. Talbin had been asked to seek out this gnome by the bard Volidar Stormblade outside the Red Dragon Inn in Orussus, at the beginning of this adventure.

Poto tells them he is seeking a dangerous weapon, thought to be an artifact of the evil god Seto, which he believes is in the area. Meanwhile, Torvin Arkenthrasher is healed, and tells a story about finding an underground complex on the farm of one Aif Jenkins. He claims he found Seto’s scythe there, but blacked out when he touched it. Upon awakening, he claims to have been made captive by the Curved Blade forces defeated in S1 by the party.

Juliana, Nodis and Talbin decide to leave, to head back to Orussus. Beamer and Banion stay to help Eusebius in his quest to heal Torvin and destroy the scythe. Raseriet and Ogrin agree to stay and help Eusebius, in return for his commitment to help Razh free his homeland afterwards.

NPCs: Captain Haj Carter commands the militia in Braeholl. He is tall, middle aged, with grey eyes and bronzed skin. He carries a long sword, short sword and dagger and wears light armor.
Poto Knezer runs a shop called “The half-filled goble”. It sells magical and musical items, as well as lockpicking and thievery gear. It is painted garishly green and purple. Poto himself if a dapper old gnome, dressing in bright colors. He is a known associate of Volidar Stormblade in Orussus.

Braeholl:
The town is surrounded by a largely intact system of wooden palasades, trenches, stone walls, and earthen embackments. a town of about 1500 souls, normally, mostly humans and half-elves.

The Boar’s Head Inn serves food and lodges travelers.

The temple of Hyrag is the largest in town. It is run by an aged human, nearly 90, named Four Thule. Beneath the temple is an underground area for storage, and with numerous alcoves for prayer and contemplation.

Nodis gets out of the tavern and looks around. The port must be that way... maybe someone knows of a ship going north. Not that he particulary wants to go anywhere, just a tourist trip to the north. Yeah, that's it.

Talbin walks over to the bard, somewhat surprised at his presence in this alley and waits a while for the bard to notice him or stop playing.

[sblock=Manzanita (ooc comment)]Now that we're in an adenture related with the Jenkins' farm I couldn't help but read some of it, and now I'm aware you're not too much familiar with the psionic rules. Actually, if you read 'cast' instead of 'manifest' and 'spell' instead of 'power' you're three quartes up the way, but in any case I'll try to be as clear as I can with the powers details.

My character sheet has hyperlinks to all the powers and feats, in case you want to have a look at them.[/sblock]

ooc: this is in a way part of S1 right? I'll judge both threads in any case.

Thanks, Erekose.

Someone, I am a psionics novice. Thanks in advance in your help making sure all your actions are well-explained. And I did notice your nicely-linked CS already. Thanks.

I would love it if the three of you could travel together, actually. If the water dragon is in Orussus, perhaps Nodis could ask for a ride north. The three of you have met to some extent, eh?

Talbin
Volidar does notice Talbin and smiles wanly at the halfling as he finishes his piece. He's obviously a superb musician.

He gazes silently at Talbin for a moment after he finishes. "Hello Talbin Longstrider." he says at last. "How's the adventuring life?"

Talbin, surprised that the bard knows him by name, responds less confident than he usually would: "Ah, eh, well.... Adventuring, yes, a bit dull lately i must admid. The creepy cellar was very exciting and the werewolf chase even more so. But it has been a while since i've been out of town. Well met by the way.." Then he regains a bit of his usual confidence. "What are you doing here in this ally anyway? If i may ask. Rather odd to see a preformer like yourself playing all for himself."

"Oh," Stormblade sighs and puts down his lute. "I've received some disturbing news."

He suddenly brightens and smiles again at Talbin. "Say, there doesn't seem to be much adventure around here now. Would you be interested in helping fight a great evil up North? It's a long trip, but I can promise you, you'll be useful when you get there."

rln: I believe we're waiting for you at this point. How's it going? You have been one of the best players I've ever had the pleasure of DMing, and I hope you can join us here. But in my games, 'I like to move it move it.' So if you don't think you can make a tenative commitment to post at least 4 times/week for most of the next 4 months or so, you should probably pass on this adventure.
