"My god? Taurusk, the bloody bull is my patron. He bids me to seek out the weak blooded and the hypocrites that preach how much better they are than others...and to destroy them."
"Ah. Oh," says Conuld, taken aback. "That is a singular creed. It is more common for a faith to teach that those with power should protect the weak, in order to maintain a stable society. When you meet someone stronger than yourself, do they have your blessing to destroy you? Well, I suppose we can all agree that hypocrites are... um... annoying, can't we?"
"My people?" Kurgahz growls, "Ssince when have bands of Half-Orcs been a bother to anyone? As for watching out for each other, I'll do what needs done to serve my own interestss. But, since my interestss now include doin' this job to get paid, you should be fine."
"True," says Conuld, "half-orcs seem to find their way in life as individuals, and seem no more likely to associate with one another than with members of other races. Well, perhaps not elves and dwarves, or... gnomes... or halflings." He turns to Shadya. "I was under the impression forty Dragons was the sum total. Which, I must admit, will just cover my expenses, with little to show afterwards except a horse I do not want, a one-fifth share in a healing wand which I hope I will not require the use of, and - and this is more of value to me than the rest - knowledge of a new spell, though perhaps not the one I would have chosen to learn. Still, the chance to see the world is a reward in itself. I suppose. Is there further payment to come, Shadya?" He moves closer to her. "Better answer 'yes' in the hearing of the half-orc," he mutters.

OOC - and I thought Taelythenihel had trouble inspiring trust!

Cludge's eyes widen at the mention of "half-orcs."
Half an orc, ya say? 'Pologies, my friend, I ain't been much out in tha world. By the Enworphant's tusks, I had no ideer such a thing existed! Where I comes from, we only ever had dealins with the whole orcs. An' we mostly made 'em inter half-orcs, but not in yer kinda way, he says with a cheery wink.
He peers up at Kurgahz. Why, now that I looks closer, yer not so orcky after all. Interestin'. Still, like I says, I ain't one ta hold anyone's parents agin' 'em.
An as far as taking them who boasts down a notch, I'm with ya there, pal. Mebbe not so much with the killin' 'em alla time, but certainly a "gentle" application o' boot ta buttock is generly a good ideer.

Cludge scrunches his face and breaks wind, a very loud and sustained BRAAAAAAAARRRRRRRAPAPAPP! that echoes in the silence. He sighs contentedly and returns to packing his gear.

Cludge grins and pats the pommel sticking up above his shoulder. Ya meen Martha here'd be twice her size too? Now that would be a sight to behold, it would. I'd have no objection ta that, to be sure.
"Wonderful," says Conuld, relieved to be talking to someone he trusts. "I will try to give you warning before casting it, so that you are not caught with enemies inside your guard. Wait, you named your sword Martha? Is there a story there? Maybe I should name my quarterstaff! No, arihurthiklevethix sjir thric grovisvlaraek, as they say - 'the safety of a wizard lies in the book, not the staff.'"

When Shadya cashes Joe's bill at the bank, she is surprised when the female clerk hands her six bags of 50 dragons rather than five. Shadya, being an honest woman, coughs and says, "Miss, I believe you have made a mistake." The clerk looks up and responds, "Oh no, I'm quite sure it's 300. Here, let me check again..." She puts Joe's bill on the desk and points at the sums. "See?"

The Bill of Lading:

Nimbusad wine, x2: 1250 crowns ea., 250 dragons tot.
Stormbrew, sm. keg, x4: 125 crowns ea., 50 dragons tot.

Agg. tot.: 300 dragons

~Joe Smith

Shadya could have sworn it only said 250, but ink doesn't lie, and if the bank honors the bill, all the better.

OOC: I did not intend for the travel expenses to eat up a significant portion of the escort's costs, so consider this additional 500gp money for horses. Solange's "travel budget" also has about 170gp left in it. This ought to hold you off for now, and perhaps adventuring in the desert will turn up some more profit-earning opportunities...

[sblock=Lasair: ]I think the ziivash-crystal would definitely be appropriate for Lasair, I like it. My goal is to have Lasair receive the crystal in some non-adventurous way that doesn't involve the others (so they have no claim to it), but she would receive an equal cut (1/5) of everything else. Does that sound fair?[/sblock]

"A sstable society ain't what Taurusk is interested in. Stronger in arm doesn't have much ta do wit' whether or not their 'weak blooded'. And I'm not quite as bloodthirsty as he is. I'm mostly content ta take out thosse that make trouble fer me. And the hypocrite thing is mostly personal. Had enough a' them already in life."

Kurgahz scratches the side of his face with his spiked gauntlet as Cludge finishes. "I never made a Orc into a 'half-orc', but I did squish one into jelly with my greatclub here..." He tilts back his head to upend and drink the last of the keg from the Inn before tossing it aside and letting loose a massive belch to compete with Cludge... "BUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUURRRRRRRP....Urrrrp". He smiles a toothy grin down at the dwarf.

Shadya looks over the papers, "Oh, well, it's my mistake. Thank you for being honest."

Shadya hands everyone an extra 5 dragons and put the rest into the travel fund. (Everyone got 50 more gold! And travel Budget will be another 250. With people buying some of their own food and the wand, this should be more than enough.)

Conuld looks blank for a moment, then laughs. "Right you are, Cludge, right you are. I have been meaning to mention this to you... there is a spell I know which will cause a person to grow to twice their normal height, for a short time, but perhaps long enough for it to make a difference in a fight, and you could perhaps stop enemies from getting close to you. Would you be willing to let me cast it, if we run into trouble? I asked Pendrake before we went up against those Blacklilies, but he was not too interested, and in the event, the situation did not come up. It's quite harmless - oh, and your weapons and armour grow with you, of course! Back in the library, when I first learned it, I used it to reach the top shelves, until Baland stopped me - you see, although it makes you stronger, you would be a little clumsier, too... it took me a long time to pick up all those books." He shakes his head.
"You need to let your strength flow from within you, like water from a spring," Shadya says.

Conuld looks confused, wondering whether this is a polite way of refusing to be the recipient of the spell. "An extra fifty Crowns..." he muses to himself. "More scrolls... or, no, no, best to save it, for whatever comes up."

OOC: how much of the purchasing are we going to RP? any? none? Unless Rae has a burning need to portray a crusty horse-dealer?

OOC: RP as much as you want! If your actions require me to portray the horse dealer, then so be it. But usually shopping is pretty dull to play out, so I'd say skip it.

Later that day....

"I shall call this horse Felynadaint," says Conuld. "It suits him. And now I believe I have everything I need." With a deep breath, he finishes, "I can set out whenever you wish, Shadya. No doubt before we reach the desert, we will have a day of rest during which I can transfer this scroll to my spellbook."[sblock=Sylvan]Yellowtooth[/sblock]

"If you are all ready now, then we can set off." Shadya says. "Ariel here is said to be the swiftest horse in the stable, and Ox is as strong as they come and shall carry our gear."

Shadya doesn't seem to actually believe the lines the horse trader gave her, but both horses seem healthy and well trained.

OOC: Lasair won't be able to shop because Rystil Arden is out of town for a while.
