Description: 6’4”, 220#. Wavy red-gold hair and blue eyes. Wears a well-trimmed beard. Fair skinned and ruggedly handsome. He has heavy arms and shoulders, but otherwise leanly muscled. Wears plain but well-made woolen shirt, tunic, and trousers. His broad leather belt and bracers are studded with copper. He wears high boots, tightly strapped, and a cloak trimmed with wolf fur. In combat he wears a hauberk of black iron scales, and a burnished helmet adorned with a white horse-hair crest.
Personality: Ragnar is by nature an explorer. He most enjoys sailing to new lands, meeting new people, and exploring strange forests. A consummate outdoorsman, he is equally at home on a longship as on land. The blood of many generations of warriors sings in his veins, however, and he will never shy from combat. He can also be reckless and short tempered at times. However, he is brave to a fault, proud of his father’s heritage, and loyal to his companions. He will freely embrace his father’s duty to King Rothgar as his own. He can rarely resist, however, a pretty lass, a well-forged blade, or tales of distant, exotic lands.
Background: Gunnar Gunnarsen once was one of King Rothgar's trusted sea-chiefs. Many were the raids and battles which he won for his former master. Years ago, he retired to his own homestead, with a plump, much younger, merchant's daughter for a wife. He had several daughters, but only one son. Ragnar grew tall and strong like his father, and early on showed great interest in both sailing and the hunt. He was also taught to wield ax, spear, and blade as soon as he could lift the wooden practice weapons. To Gunnar Hard-Sailer’s joy, the lad was a natural, and mastered any weapon he trained with in a matter of days. He sailed many times in trading voyages with his father (many of which were spiced by a little piracy) and thus became enamored of both the sea and where she could take him. By age fifteen he was a blooded warrior, and often has he sailed with his father’s former sea-wolves both in raids and in reprisals. He is known as the best swordsman in their settlement, a skill which has not only brought pride to his father, but kept most potential rivals from seeking redress when his roving eye turns on a local maiden. His dream is to captain his own ship and sail where few or none of even his bold people have dared to in the past. [/sblock]
