trippin' around the cosmos?

in our game, offworld travel has been fairly common (over the course of years). have any of you had trouble reconciling differences between worlds (spellcasting differences between krynn and toril for example)?

how often do you convert literary world into "D&D terms"?

is it worth the effort? do the players enjoy it?

how complex is your group? ours has a dm's council (we are reponsible for generating worlds, adventures, classes, npcs and everything else). we also run individual games. each dm has a group. players can migrate between groups. dm's run all games according to one standard so that players moving between groups can easily intigrate.

haven't heard of anyone else taking this approach. anyone else have "unconventional" gaming methods?
