Will There Be a New Indiana Jones RPG?

With all the new Indiana Jones products coming out in 2008, I got to wondering if WoTC might release a new, official Indiana Jones RPG. Although not the best game ever, I have some fond memories of my old green-boxed The Adventures of Indiana Jones Role-Playing Game .

Althought there are some generic pulp games out there already, it might be fun to see a one-shot Indiana Jones-specific product, such as a boxed set with some plastic miniatures (akin to the most recent D&D Basic Game). Maybe they could base it on the Star Wars Saga d20 rules.

Does WotC have the rights to Indy, or did Mayfair retain that?

If so, i'd love to see Star Wars Saga rejigged into the new d20 Modern (since d20 Modern was already more cinematic).

TSR had the license, then West End Games, but I'm 99% sure West End lost it when they lost all their other licenses in the late 90's.

Well, if WotC did nothing more than a CCG to tie-in with the Transformers movie, I wouldn't get my hopes for an Indiana Jones RPG, even assuming WotC has any kind of rights to do an RPG of that product. They'd probably have an easy time getting the license for a G.I. Joe or Transfromers RPG as their own parent company (Hasbro) owns those two properties, and yet closest we've gotten to either is a card game.

I'm pretty much in agreement with takyris that there's already several RPGs that can handle an Indiana Jones type setting quite well. So a dedicated book by WotC is superfluous, especially as interest in such a thing by the overall gaming crowd, given the number of existing alternatives already on the market, would be minimal at best.

Indy would be a lot easier to make an rpg out of than Transformers though, especially considering that they already did the Pulp Heros minigame for D20 Modern in Dungeon/Polyhedron a few years back. Re-fluff and expand that a bit, throw in some kewl screencaptures from the movie, voila. One would hope they'd put more into it, but the foundation is already there.

Sometimes I wish I had children so I had a genuine reason to buy Lego despite being 39 years old.... ;)

As for Indiana Jones, the RPG, I think Savage Worlds would be a better fit than d20 Modern.
