Since Shadya's dad isn't here due to the attack, Kurgaz urges Lasair to go ahead and rest. He keeps first watch on the prisoner and wakes up Cludge in a while to take over. After he gets up in the morning, he takes time to do his prayers to Taurusk before eating breakfast.

After breakfast, they should get an update on the status of those who were attacked and see who they can turn this prisoner and his confession over to.

In the morning, it's a while before Gram comes back with news. He looks grim.

"'Mornin', boys," he says to Shadya's brothers, who are making food and eating in the dining area.

Addressing the rest of you, Shadya in particular, he says, "Got some good news: Hayder's up, along wit' the rest of 'em. Everyone 'cept Sabil. Hayder was up barely long enough to feel a short gale on a summer's day before he was out of bed and marching to the council chambers. Helatia went crazy as a typhoon in the desert last night..." Gram sighs and shakes his head.

"Looks like he'll be up there for a while. You can go see 'im, if you like, but he'll be occupied for certain. I only left because I couldn't stand to hear them sayin'..." With a glance at Kurgahz, he stops.

"Righ' then. Sabil will be alive for a while longer at least. I found more scrolls in the library. I'll administer them until we find a cure. Until we find a cure, you 'ear me?" This last bit he says with his head inclined upwards, towards the ceiling.

"Gods above, this is a mess. Your brother's still at the temple, Shadya. His friend is still abed, she took a bad spill, slammed her face right on the Pavilion ground. She'll be fine, I think, but it doesn't stop 'im from worryin'. Go pay 'im a visit."

Having said what he came to say, Gram is about to leave.

OOC: Experience to come. For now, let's just keep trucking, and I'll get to the experience when I'm not about to fall asleep at my keyboard.

Kurgahz narrows his eyes in suspicion as Gram's sentance trails off when he looks at the half-orc. After Gram leaves, he says to the others, "Well, sounds like dat mess last night with the mob is gonna be da general reaction from these folks. Gonna make it hard fer me ta go anywhere in this city, and I sure as hell ain't gonna put up with us splittin' up no more. Too much trouble comes of it."

After finishing some food, he asks the others "So, whatda we do next? Take our prisoner in fer debriefing?"

OOC: So says the player of Shadya yn Hayder, for whom this adventure was written:
I'm sorry. I haven't had time for posting, and it doesn't look to change any time soon :(
With Solange effectively out and Rystil and Rae each absent for weeks now, perhaps it's time to call this one. We've reached a plausible stopping point, I suppose. We can hand over the prisoner to Gram, keep a low profile for a few days, then head for home. Not heroic, but there we go.

Since this will leave Conuld incredibly far below WBL, I wonder whether I shouldn't retire him by declaring that he's going to stay in Helatia to found a school of wizardry.

Sadly, you have a point there Trouvere. We did complete the primary mission of this adventure (escorting Shadya home). Even though I'm sure we were supposed to deal with the uprising and problems in town, at least we are at a decent stopping point. Could be a lot worse places to have the adventure hang up and stop. I guess once Rae stops by again we can hear his thoughts on the idea of wrapping it up here, awarding XP, and saying they all make it home to Orrussus safely. Maybe after a nice payout for services rendered to payout money wise whatever treasure may have been appropriate for the adventure we've gone through so far. I guess we'll see.

XP Time!

It's been a long, long time since we last did this. Almost a year, in fact.

Here are the aggregate awards for that year. Included in this total are ad-hoc RP awards for meeting Shadya's family, the Dervish Rites, the Chase, your individual encounters in the alleys and rooftops, dealing with your prisoners, and the aftermath of the evening.

Cludge – 2500
Conuld – 2900
Kurgahz – 2600
Lasair – 2450
Shadya – 2400

Also, I'm awarding 12 months of real time experience on the 28th. Calculate your new level based on the aggregate XP above, tell me what it is, and I'll use that in my calculation for real-time XP.

Shadya heads off to the council chambers to speak with her father. Those that accompany her make it only to the dome's outer gate: entry is denied to all except Shadya, whose father is a council member.

With little to do and the city on high alert, the group spends the day at Hayder's home. In time, Shadya and Gram return with a grave report.

"Here's the thousand gold they gave you for your prisoners. Don't know what they're going to do with the orc. Don't think I want to know.

"Things aren't bodin' well for our orc friends. Council's gone cyclone twisted, Hayder's tryin' to play mediator and getting nowhere fast. Th' public is too riled up, and the council members are scared out o' their minds. The short of it's that Kurgahz can't stay here in Helatia. You need t'get out, friend. And you others, right now you're outsiders who travel with an orc, an' I can't guarantee you safety in this city anymore.

"There are tunnels underdesert that lead out o' Helatia. There's one here, beneath Hayder's house. There's also a storage room where Hayder keeps a few family relics. Shadya, here's the key. Your father wants you to take the blade and get out of the city. You others, Hayder wants you to have his ancestral items; he'd rather they get used by true heroes than stolen by the cowards who are running this city into the sands.

"I'm going with you for a ways. There must be a cure for this poison, but it's not in this city. Sabil will last a while longer, but we have no time to waste. We leave as soon as possible. Gather your things, let's go."

OOC: After that 2600, Kurgahz will be at 6,781 XP or 4th level. Time XP will then put him near 5th. Also, am I correct in assuming that was 1,000 GP to be split between the party instead of 1,000 GP each?
