identifying items a la Magic Item Compendium.

I've noticed that they've revised the rules for identifying items and would love to use them for older items too, except most pre-MiC items don't have a spellcraft or use magic device DCs for me to base the PC's skills on.

I'm wondering, is there a formula they used to establish the numbers they came to, or did they pretty much just eyeball them and call it even at that?

i'd love any and all help i could get on this topic, as its very interesting to my group!

answered my own question!

a close look at the spellcraft table revealed the following, emphasis mine:

When casting detect magic, determine the school of magic involved in the aura of a single item or creature you can see. (If the aura is not a spell effect, the DC is 15 + one-half caster level.) No action required.

checking the MiC I discovered this to be pretty consistent with the numbers and CL used. welp, that about wraps this up. hope this helps someone in the future! :)
