O'chul is quickly becoming one of my favorite characters. Right now, he's third behind Haley and Elan.

Yeah, this was a good one.

O'Chul is definitely a model Paladin. The monster is definitely not evil, just naive and misguided.

Unless the box is lead-lined, O'Chul would be able to know right away if the MitB was evil.

Now, see, that depends.

First up, it depends on O'Chuul's Int and Wis score to see if he thinks of Detecting Evil. Now, I know it's a slim chance that he's just forgotten to after being tortured for a few months but he does have a lot on his mind right now. His Int is an unknown but considering that he's failed a bunch of Will saves so far his Wisdom seems fairly average. Then again, that was Xykon casting, so the save DC could be just that high.

Aside from that, we know the monster's very powerful. If it's an Abomination or even The Terrasque, for example, that'd render it immune to divinations, I think. Even if it isn't, a Ring of Mind Shielding isn't that big an investment for Xykon. Of course, inless it's a very small Terrasque... well, I doubt that option.
