IMC, I use all of the above.

I've had one player each, throughout various games,
take MC's ranger, the PHB ranger, and an alt.ranger...

None seemed excessively weak or really too strong...

Terrain choices are Arctic, Aquatic, Desert, Forest, Hill, Marsh, Mountains, Plains, and Underground.

Pathfinding allows a Wilderness skill check to improve the speed a ranger can move through trackless wilderness by changing what type of terrain it is counte as for movement purposes. (For non combat movement).
