All preparations made, the party spreads itself around the ruined chamber while Norim moves to open the door. He pushes the aged portal into the chamber. The party's preparations pay off, for the adventurers are not surprised when two humanoid skeletons immediately animate and make to move toward the door, shields and scimitars rising into attack position.

Dacen fires off a skillful shot that would have caught a man through the eye. He curses the foul undead and drops his light crossbow.

Attack; crossbow damage (1d20+3=23, 1d8=6)

He moves backwards, a little enabling his companions clearer venue to attack the creatures. He slings his shield back onto his arm and draws his mace. He makes general preparations to turn the undead next round if necessary.

OOC: of course now we roll the possible criticals . . .

He clenches his fist on the grip of his shield in his left hand.

Nemos Farwalker keeps an arrow nocked, ready to attack should a target present itself. Dacen fires off a skillful shot that would have caught a man through the eye. He curses the foul undead and drops his light crossbow. The bolt does little damage to the undead. He moves backwards, a little enabling his companions clearer venue to attack the creatures. He slings his shield back onto his arm and draws his mace. He makes general preparations to turn the undead next round if necessary.

Norim rushes into the room to attack the nearest skeleton with his longsword. Taking a mighty swing at the undead creature, he connects solidly with it. Unfortunately, the creature's lack of flesh and blood renders the sword strike utterly ineffective!

Gordon takes a step to the right and fires a magic missile at the skeleton he can see already. "Have some broken bones!"

The warmage's magical attack proves much more effective than Norim's longsword. The skeleton shatters into a pile of bones!

Xenon drops his mindblade and moves quickly into the room as well. There, he throws the magic stone at the nearest undead. The holy rock crashes into and then through the skeleton's sternum, reducing it to a second pile of bones. Xenon clenches his fist on the grip of his shield in his left hand.

As quickly as it started, the fight is over. The room guarded by the skeletons is roughly a 30-foot square. The ceiling overhead shows signs of damage from the collapse of the structure's second story. Rubble litters the floor. In one corner is what appears to be the broken remains of a wooden ladder.

Looking at Xenon's character sheet, I think his BAB is wrong. I show it listed as +0. Shouldn't it be +1. Remember: Everyone started with 750 XP, so everyone's leveled to 2nd by now.

Gordon examines the broken ladder. As near as he can figure, the ladder once led from this ground floor to the second floor through a trapdoor in the ceiling. When the second floor collapsed years ago, the falling rubble probably crushed the ladder. Time, looters, and insects probably account for the rest of the damage.
