The Monster Project

Hey all,

I am working on a project of converting "missing monsters" that are cool enough to be worth converting to 4e. This will be the master thread with all the eventual links. I'll put out a "monster search" thread in General about a level ahead of myself, and then post the conversions here.

1st level is done for now.
2nd level has begun.
3rd level is done for now.
4th level is done for now.
5th level is done for now.
6th level is done for now.
7th level is done for now.
8th level is done for now.
9th level is doen for now.
10th level is done for now.
11th level isdone for now.
12th level is done for now.
13th level is done for now.
14th level is done for now.
15th level is done for now.
16th level is done for now.
17th level is done for now.
18th level is done for now.
19th level is done for now.
20th level is done for now.
21st level is done for now.
22nd level is done for now.
23rd level is done for now.
24th level is done for now.
25th level is done for now.
26th level is done for now.
27th level is done for now.
28th level is done.
29th level is done.
30th level is done.

Monsters in Alphabetical Order

EDIT: I've added two documents that collect a bunch of these conversions, and occasionally another thing or two that I've used in my games. PLAYERS IN MY CAMPAIGN, THERE IS SOME STUFF IN THERE YOU SHOULDN'T SEE! For anyone else running 4e (or who likes to read 4e monsters), I hope you have fun with these! I've tried to tweak everything to post-MM3 standards and to clean up a lot of the crap in some of my earlier efforts. Cheers!

Pretty cool.
Will you ever add in some sort of descriptions or do you think that's going too far?

On the more obscure ones, yes. On the rest... maybe, after I'm done with the basic project- but that will take some time...

Jester:

You might be able to use the following Master Monster Index to help with your quest:
http://www.sulerin.com/creatures/creatures.asp

Simply do a search for "1E 2E" having Any of these words in Source and sort by CR. That should give you some good ideas, I hope, of creatures that have been left out that you might want to include, and a rough level estimate. (Of course, you cold just multiply the CR by 1.5 and estimate from there, but it puts stuff in perspective to one another.)

Just A Thought,

One thing I notice is a lack of various monsters, like "Aquatic" "Desert" "Jungle" or "Arctic".

Among other things, several people have complained about a lack of Animals. Tigers, elephants, etc. Though I realize The_Jester is looking for more traditional critters.

Oh, I'm definitely down with some animals- the tiger, f'rinstance, would be a cool one to do up. The trick is assigning appropriate levels to 'em.

For the levels I'm currently working on- 4th through 6th- I think there's an ape or bear or two already listed at lower levels; tiger sounds good to me at maybe 9th or 10th? I can't think of anything ottomh (off the top of my head) that would make a good base 5th level animal that would be different enough to be worth doin' up, though... let me know if you come up with something!

I also plan to do a rhino and possibly a hippo, as well as whatever other interesting and cool animals people suggest/I come up with.

What's "missing"?

I love what you're doing here but I'm at a loss to discern what constitutes a "missing monster" worth converting? How can you possibly be "done" with level 1 monsters when you've only done a couple dozen?

Are you targeting a particular adventure? A particular rules edition? A particular monster manual?

If I'm just being dense, ignore me.

Awesome job so far man! Some of these bring back some great memories.

Are you going to make these available in PDF when they are finished?
