Do crits on sneak attacks max the sneak attack dice?

I have a simple question and I'm pretty sure of the answer:

If a rogue sneak attacks and crits, he doesn't max out the sneak damage right? We couldn't find any clear rule in the PHB about it.

He maxes it out. The PHB says to maximize all damage dice except those added by a critical - while there are points that might still make it unclear even then, the fact of the matter is that the example rogue power card from a preview a few weeks ago maxed the rogue's sneak attack damage on its crit line :)

It's a question of some contention, but so far, the official stance has been that any damage dice not specifically caused by the critical is maxed.

There have been about a dozen threads on this topic already, most of which have gone on for many pages. The PHB says you maximize all damage dice except those explicitly added by a critical hit. Sneak attack isn't added because you rolled a crit, so it's maximized.

Yes he does, have a look on page 278 PH.
Because this is exception based, if it isn't mentioned as being an exception, it comes under the rule.
Have a look under 'Extra Damage' heading, where it says what doesn't get maximised.
Since sneak atack isn't mentioned there, it does get maximised, as does hunter's quarry, and warlock's curse.

edit: major ninja!

It's extra damage, but not extra damage because it's a critical hit. The latter is the only type of damage not maximized.
