Pre-gens for The Last Breaths of Ashenport

Wizards just published the Dungeon adventure The Last Breaths of Ashenport. It looks really great. I am a huge Lovecraft fan and I can't wait to play it.

However, I would really love to have five 8th level PCs all ready to go so I can play it as a one-shot for my friends over a long night or something.

Does anyone yet know of a good source for pre-gen PCs? Is anyone putting together some 8th level PCs? How about if five of us are willing to put together one PC each to share here so we can play this adventure out?

Here's wishing Wizards would start putting up PC pre-gens for the Dungeon adventures they publish.

I'd think that the demand for pre-made parties of PCs with higher-level adventures would be fairly small. Most players would much rather make their own characters.

Now, it makes sense for things like Keep on the Shadowfell, Into the Shadowhaunt, Treasure of Talon Pass, or the like, because those are designed specifically to be entry-level introductory adventures for new groups to sort of "get a taste" for D&D4E.

But for a normal, higher-than-starting-level adventure, unless it's an RPGA tournament adventure or something, it seems like it would be rare that people would want to use pre-made characters.

That being said, I can certainly see the value of what you want to do, as the idea of being able to jump right in for a one-shot game is definitely valid. As a DM, I personally would want to make all of those characters myself, just so that I would be very familiar with what each of the PCs are capable of.

However, if you do want to make it a shared collaboration project, as you've suggested, then I'd be happy to help you out by contributing a character.

I believe any instituted effort for adventure writers to make pregenerated characters is pretty doomed to failure.

Just check the link in my signature for one example.


I think that if you contact your friends and ask them to make up their own level X characters it will probably work out better. Making your own character means you are familiar with your character's abilities and items, and just picking up someone else's pregen is almost always a handicap in some way.

I'm pretty sure the Dwarven battleaxe fighter doesn't want Blade Opportunist, since that feat requires you to be using a heavy blade, which the battleaxe is not. Combat Reflexes is better if you want to play up bonuses to OA's, whereas Shield Push or Distracting Shield would boost your Combat Challenge. I personally like Shield Push.

I enjoy building up characters and didn't have other plans for the night, so I'll at least build you a Halfling Paladin.

Is it your intent to under-equip the pre-gens? I noticed the dwarf is nowhere near the DMG guidelines for creating characters at 8th level. If that's intentional, you'll need to nix some equipment from the following build.
