"Damn you Douven and damn the day I met you."
Pretty much my only thought as I trudge along the Drake Road. If not for him I'd be drinking or resting in comfort. Or having real food.
"This is a big haul. We score the whole wagonload. I got a buyer lined up. We'll meet at the Goat afterwards for the payout."
Except he didn't. And he didn't tell me that the wagon belonged to the Guild. No, I found that out when the Throttler snagged me at the Goat. My neck is still sore.
"Here's what's going to happen. You are going to track down Douven. Rayann and Jardan are going with you to recover the Guild's property. A Pale Knight will join you at the gate. I don't have to tell you what I want and what will keep you alive. Get out and do it now.
*sigh* So now I'm stuck with the Guild Princess, a devilspawn, and a creepy death-worshipping knight, tracking down my former road boss along the dusty road to Fork. Fork. Stupid name for a village. Would adding "river" to it have been too hard to pronounce?
