A trelon swarm is terrible to behold. When they appear, they mob any nearby creature, tearing through their victims like scythes.

This sorcerer used them as weapons, transporting them into the Academy of Weavers near Curst, where the trelons murdered the entire school of illusionists in their sleep.

Organization: Solitary, mob (3-36) or hive (10-1,000)?

It would take quite a few to murder an entire school, assuming 1-3 per illusionist.

CR 4? Despite having less HD, they are actually much deadlier than an etheral marauder (CR 3).

Alignment: Always neutral evil

Advancement: 4-9 (Large)?

Ok, what we've got is:

Trelons are valued for their talons, which are long enough to be used as swordblades. When properly enchanted, they can become fearsome mage-slaying weapons. There have been tales that such weapons prefer to attack mages in combat, sometimes twisting in their owner’s grip to stab at magic-users, no matter what the intended target. There are rumors that trelons eventually come to reclaim the piece of their kin taken from them.

Trelon blood is said to give arrows of slaying (notably those that slay mages, illusionists, and shadows) extra abilities, but these abilities are unknown. Any attempt to use trelon blood to boost spellcasting or in a magical ritual has caused the spell to fail and has, in some circumstances, summoned a swarm of trelons to the scene.

Trelon claws can be enchanted into magic short swords, but they are "cursed" to attack only magic-using creatures if any are in range? Leave off the blood bit, or leave it as rumors?

I like your suggestions. For the "cursed" swords, should the wielder get a save? Or make it work like the berserker cursed weapon, forcing the wielder to attack with no saving throw?
