Going with the Deva Invoker of Ioun.

Moar to follow shortly.
Sharundabald, my Psion, is a Tiefling worshiper of Ioun. He was raised by a cleric of Ioun because his mother left him on their doorstep, when he was first born he had no outwards signs that differentiated him from an average human and his parents wanted to give him a chance at a "normal" life in a society that generally hates and fears his kind.

Unfortunately for that chance his eyes, when he opened them four weeks later, were bright yellow and over the next few years in became evident that his finger nails were nearly claws, and he would always be gaunt and pale. The priests of Ioun, however, never acted bigoted toward him. So, to this day, he still worships Ioun.

Around puberty he took a step closer to Ioun's tenants when he began to develop his psionic potential, and finally felt he could truly do as Ioun teachs and "Seek the perfection of your mind by bringing reason, perception and emotion into balance with one another." Now he travels the lands and finds them much less welcome than his home, but does not lose hope. There are always other followers of Ioun.

Little more information for the start of the game,

Today is a holy day for Iuon, pilgrams have come from all around to worship at the statue of Estered in the town square or the Temple on the south eastern edge of the square. All around the square are merchants hawking food, ritual insence, or "artifacts" to the pilgrams" to the South Western edge of the square lies the Blue Plate tavern. It's been lightly drizzling since morning and the clouds in the sky indicate a storm is coming soon.

I am fine with Barek knowing everyone, sorta knowing everyone, being acquainted with everyone, knowing some people, or whatever works.

Sharundabald has a big mouth so it's very possible that everyone has heard if him, even if they don't want him to have heard of them. I'm ok with having heard of Barek but probabaly haven't met him as I'm new to the area.
