Interesting, I always thought it was straight up EGG too.

It's always interesting to see what kind of mythic or historical origins game elements have- and myth and history are great places to get adventure ideas from!

It's been my experience that all really good fiction (as well as a good many other things, inventions for instance) is in fact simply something very factual or very old just restated or redesigned.

I'd like to see something entirely and truly original, that is not a redesign of something much older, a reinterpretation of an old idea, or some sort of composite of other ideas, things, or sources. I'd also like very much to create something entirely and truly original.

I'm still waiting for either one of those things to happen though. I have a feeling I'm gonna be waiting quite awhile longer.

True originality, true creation, seems really easy as a theoretical concept.
It's really hard in actual practice.

Not many ever get there that before long they don't find somebody else's tracks ahead of em.
