Death Touch Domain Power

OK, I want to make sure I am clear on a couple points here:

1) If I Death Touch something, but roll less than its current HPs, it takes no damage at all.
2) If I Death Touch something, but roll at least its current HPs, it immediately drops to -10 and is dead.

It seems so binary; an all-or-nothing power. Have I got it right?

2) Yeah, dead is dead. (-10 HP if you need to know, this is someplace in the DMG).

Think about power word kill. It is essentially the same.
