Long for the days of paladins warding off evil creatures with a holy word, summoning a blessed steed to their side, and standing as a beacon against the forces of the Lower Planes? There remains an order of paladins held to those tenets of old - the celestial champions.

Use this paragon path to add a nostalgic touch to your 4e paladin, including two new uses of the Channel Divinity feat and a ritual for calling down a celestial ride from the heavens.

Holding Out for a Hero
It’s not a real popular one today. It’s not “cool.” And indeed, the vast majority of interesting characters out there in popular fiction don’t fall into that mold. Batman’s a much more interesting character than Superman. Wolverine’s a lot more popular than Captain America. Even Conan, who was never written to be the deepest of characters, seems to have a little more to him as a person than, say, King Arthur. James Bond and Jack Sparrow, Han Solo and Dean Winchester, and so on and so forth. Some are characters who bend the rules if it means accomplishing the greater good; some are just amoral souls who happen to drift a little more toward good than evil. Heck, even in my own fiction writing, my protagonists run the gamut from “flawed” to “utter bastard.” I’ve yet to write a novel or a short story about someone who, in the strictest sense of the term, could be called a “hero.”
