Me again:

I wanted to start creating my replacement for my soon to be retired character. There are quite some proposals and changes floating around, so I thought it would be best to ask here.

Old character (Eladrin Swordsage 3)

If I want to create a goliath runepriest 3, what item / starting gold do I get? Do I have to pay for everything or are base clothes and maybe non-magic items free?

Reading this I think I get:

1750 - 840 (cost level 4 item) = 910

That would be equal of a level 1 & 2 item + 30 gold. Not enough for an adventurers kit and an armor, if I choose a weapon and a neck item.

I just noticed that Hergunna (link in sig) never got a second approval for level 2... and XP was just awarded in her adventure. :(

Can any judge with a spare moment give her the once-over? Thanks.

edit: Doesn't have to a be a judge, the first approval was from renau1g.

Howdy. Just wanted to post a warning that I may take a bit longer than normal to reply this week. I have some unexpected repairs i need to do on my car before I get in inspected (due at the end of the month), so I'm waiting for the shop to call me. However I have dial-up so that means that I'm not going to be on during the day and I'm going to have a lot of catching up at night.

For my sins, I made a bunch of updates to the charter, to reflect recent proposals. Here's what I did:

Remove this text: "From Dragon 372: Amendment: In the "Playing Shadar-Kai" article, "Shadar-kai" is added to the prerequisites of the Reaper's Touch feat. (Discussion here)", because it's been made obsolete by errata.

Added this to the house rules list: "From Dragon 372: Not allowed: The Punisher of the Gods Epic Destiny is not allowed, because the judges feel that it is too powerful in conjunction with builds that optimize their chance of a critical hit. (Discussion here)"

Changed "Anyone may propose that material be amended or excluded, using the proposal system described above. In this case, the material under discussion is not approved until voting is finished." to "Anyone may propose that material be amended or excluded, using the proposal system described above. The material will be available until a proposal to ban or amend it has succeeded."

Removed the list of things that were banned because voting had not concluded. That means that the following things are now allowed, that weren't (officially) before:
  • Grease, Illusory Wall
  • Taunting Visage feat, Astral Seal and Recovery Strike powers
  • Items from "Ashen Covenant", Dragon 364
  • From Dragon 368, "Running Gladiatorial Campaigns": whip, net and associated feats, Called Shot, Staff Fighting, Arena Specialist, Catspaw Style, Exotic Fighting Style, and Grudge Style feats, Hunting Spider Style feat.
  • From Dragon 369, "Bazaar of the Bizarre": Ghoststride Boots, Giantkind Gloves
  • From Dragon 371, "Legacy of Acererak", the backgrounds.
  • From Dragon 372, "Masters of the Planes": Epic Destinies (except for Punisher of the Gods, which is still banned).
  • From Dragon 374, "White Lotus Academy": all of it.

Changed "If a character of 4th level or higher has been killed, the player can mark him as permanently dead, and replace him with a character of a level higher than 1st." to "If a character of 2nd level or higher has been killed, the player can mark him as permanently dead, and replace him with a character of a level higher than 1st."

Changed the retirement options:

You have two options when replacing a character:

A) Create the new character one level below the old character. It will start with the following wealth, based on the level of the new character:

  • Level 1: 100 gp
  • Level 2: 780 gp
  • Level 3: 1750 gp
  • Level 4+: full starting wealth as outlined in the DMG on page 143
B) Create the new character at the same level as the old, with wealth as above but without the magic item at level+1. For example, if you retire a 5th level character and choose option B, the replacement level 5 character would only get magic items at levels 5 and 4, instead of 6, 5, and 4 as the DMG outlines. (If the new character is level 2 or 3, subtract the value of the magic item from the total.)

B) Create the new character at least one level below the level of the old character. Any XP lost in this way (a minimum of one level's worth) is divided in half and credited to the player, tracked on a wiki page, and can be spent on another character, with the DM's discretion. When credited XP is spent on a character, that character receives time gold, as if the XP gained were time XP.

Replaced "Once before your character is approved for level 2, you may do an overhaul of your character." with "Once during a character's career, you may do an overhaul of your character."

Added this: "When two of your characters have a combined level of at least 6 (for example, one at level 4 and one at level 2), you may create a third character."

Added this to the list of house rules: "Gnoll claws are considered to work like spiked gauntlets with respect to the Brawler fighter style. (Discussion here)."

There are at least two changes to the charter that I didn't make.

I didn't put in anything about our Minotaur house rule, because I couldn't bring myself to track down the requisite thread and come up with a terse description of what we actually came up with. Anyone want to suggest a suitable bullet point for the house rules list?

I didn't do anything about the expertise feats, even though one or more amendments have passed by now. We need to clear that up.

And I probably forgot a few things.

But the charter is less of a lie now than it has been for a while.

I apologize in advance for asking a question that is probably answered somewhere else on the site, but a quick scan didn't find it and I apparently can't utilize the search feature.

I was just wondering what map-making tool you all use. It seems like you all use the same one, and I was just curious what it is.

Thanks.
