New EN World Features

There have been a lot of new features introduced at EN World recently (with more to come), so I thought I'd take a moment to summarise them quickly.
  • Friendly Local Game Stores This is our graphical directory of game stores. It uses an interactive map so that you can easily and quickly see stores near you (or near a location you're visiting). The map covers the whole world, and you're welcome to (in fact encouraged to!) add any game stores you know of.
  • Social Newsfeed If you have "befriended" any other EN World members, their activity on the site shows up on your social newsfeed. From new threads and posts to blog entries, social groups, picture albums and more. Your profile also shows your own activity. You have complete privacy control over this - from choosing who you befriend to selectively allowing/not allowing specific types of actions to show up on your newsfeed.
  • Mentions A bit like Twitter - if you "mention" someone in a post, they'll get a notification and a link to the place where you mentioned them. Also, your ingoing and outgoing "mentions" are displayed in a tab on your profile. "Mentioning" is a deliberate action - it doesn't happen just because you mention someone's name, rather - like Twitter - when you deliberately mention someone's name with specific formatting.
  • Status If you're logged in you have probably noticed the green status section in the top right of the page. Here you can enter anything you like; kinda like Facebook. It shows up in your posts and in your profile.
  • Twitter Integration If you enter your Twitter details in your profile, your Twitter feed will appear. A good way to keep your profile updated and interesting!
There are more updates coming - the next big project is the Gamers Seeking Gamers system which, like the Friendly Local Game Store system will use a graphical map to help you connect with nearby gamers, events, and so on. It'll have some fairly powerful searching functionality, allowing you to narrow down what you want to appear, so if you're looking for a gaming group to join or a convention within X miles of you, it'll be easy and quick to do.
