With all of the dead lying on the ground, the group quickly dismembers them to assure they won't rise again. After minutes of brutal combat, the only sound is the wind howling in off the sea and the rustling of the forest beyond the palisade.

Everyone is bleeding, Eithal and Fredrock from dozens of wounds and others from a wound or three - but the battle seems to be over. Ominously, hundreds of ravens still swirl over the forest in the distance...

Cale spits on the ground and raises his sword at them. "Come and get some too, filthy birds? We'll smash the whole lot of ya!"

The Mason stumbles out, using her mallet as a walking stick while she presses her bloody side firmly with her other hand. "Regardless of what the Captain here thinks, I'm not sure if we want to wait here. We seem to have options now though: do we stay and hope there isn't another wave? Do we make a break for the rode back to Daunton and hope we can find a ford over the river? We could take the path below the tower, sneak off into the forest or see if we can still flag down that ship and hope they'll pick us up and take us back to Daunton."

A grim expression comes across her face as she looks around at the carnage. "Not so many of us to ferry out as there were before."

GM: Combat over! Yim hasn't gone yet, but all the archers are down already, so that'll pretty much wrap it up. Congratulations guys, that was an amazing battle, one for the L4W record books for many reasons. You guys should be proud of surviving that - much less winning it!

We may have cut off a head, but the neck is still out there waiting. Kaz says walking into the tower and picking up the journal. Perhaps this will tell us for sure where the neck is.

OOC: The journal mentioned a cave or something nearby. Am I correct in assuming that the leader of this undead force is probably there? Or is that being saved for a followup adventure?

That was a close one, and we lost many men. You are right Kaz, there must be something still out there, taking the fight to them might not be a bad idea. And quickly, while their numbers are hopefully lower. However, we have been thru alot today, and if the rest wish to, we could go for re-inforcements. If we die here, others would not know of the danger.

The group searches the battlefield and the tower quickly. The Rerisen Lord had a variety of magical items on it and a Cale, seemingly come (mostly) to his senses, shows the group to a stash he hid away during the final assault to "spite the dead!"

As the group recovers, suddenly the ravens dive to the edge of the woods and a figure forms in their midst beyond the palisade.

It seems to survey the battlefield briefly, then each of you hear a voice inside your minds.

- these must be the champions of the living - they survive our little assault but they would be wise to broach no further into realms far beyond their frail ken - return to your little city and tell them there that none shall enter these hills again for they are owned by the Council of Ravens - go now with my blessings little brave mortal heroes - go -


The figure explodes into ravens and soon the massive undead flocks are but specks vanishing into the distant mountains. At its last words, you all feel the wounds from the claws and teeth and arrows of the dead burn and tighten. The pain is excruciating.

The Master Mason, once she recovers from the pain, lifts the chainmail on her side and wipes away the blood to see the wound there has scarred closed, a section in the center of the mass of scar tissue left smooth in the shape of a raven...

Examining your own wounds, you each find that one of your wounds has done the same (where on your PCs body is up to you - see Deathscarred Boon in Treasure sblock below).

After shaking her head and probing at the scar briefly, the Mason drops her chainmail shirt down again and looks at the group. "I'm pretty sure me and what's left of my crew are going to make a run for it back to Daunton, though I'm not sure whether to flag down the ship or try the road. Oh, and here's your payment, not much for all that, but it's something. You all have my deepest gratitude - we'd all be dead if it weren't for you."

A quick jog back to the wagon still sitting beyond the palisade and she returns with small bags of coin for each of you. As she gives one to each of you, she looks you in the eye and shakes her hand. She glances at Charles and the other two grim survivors of the battle, bedecked in armor and spattered with blood. "I think we can handle any bandits that might try to mess with us now. What are you all going to do?"

GM: Depending on what you guys decide, this could be the end of the adventure. This is technically the end(as far as my adventure proposal went), but there's plenty more should you desire to keep going - though we'll probably start a new thread. There's also the possibility of recruiting a leader from the tavern - either the group going there in person, sending NPCs, or just via DM Magic, depending on where you guys go from here. :)

This creature of shadow is too dangerous to survive. We may have entered its territory, but that gives it no right to slay innocence!

OOC: I think there is Yim's potion still laying on the ground where he threw it, so he still has it. I think everyone used theirs.


OOC: Kaz will keep going and track down the undead lord. He is too dangerous to survive (plus Iron Sky is a great DM, thanks for all the treasure, XP ect.!)

So everyone is level 3-5? It would be nice to find a leader at the Hanged Man.

If we can't, I believe I will be able to make my 3rd character, a Bard sometime this week and I could switch him out for Kaz; but he would be level 1, which would probably be too low for the party.
