[Tavern Thread] The Dunn Wright Inn

Systole

First Post
The inn has gone a bit quiet, with only the prisoner bickering with the guardsmen, and the other patrons involved with their food and drink, when an older gentlemen near the end of the bar winces. "Oh, no," he says.

"What? What are you on about?" his companion says, and then he himself winces. "Damn ... I hear it, too. You don't think he's just passing by?"

The first man barely has time to shake his head before Daylily shoulders his way into the bar, knocking over a young man who happened to be opening the door at precisely the wrong time. The barbarian holds an ordinary looking stick in one hand, and some sort of small roasted carcass in the other. His earthbreaker has been replaced with a greataxe, and he's got a new wolfskin cloak. His collection of furs appears to have several new additions, which are smaller, as furs go. And mostly fluffy and calico.

"Give to me drink!" he shouts at the waitress, not so much impatiently as blissfully unaware of the volume of his voice. He drops into a chair happily. "Ha, is much vacation times!" Seeing Relic, he waves the stick and adds, "Elder Storyteller! I am have healings magic!" He gnaws the last of the meat off of the carcass and tosses the bones into the fire. Content, he launches into a song.

[sblock=Elven]We'll drink, and we'll never ha' done, boys,
Put the glass then tae round wi' arun, boys.
Let the Sun Wolf’s example aright us.
For he's soused ev'ry night,
An’ makes him sae bright,
That he's able next morning tae light us![/sblock]

He finishes off the ode with a tremendous belch, and for a moment a bemused look crosses his face. He pulls a small black and silver object out of his mouth, peers at it drunkenly, then shrugs and tosses it over his shoulder. It lands on the table behind him: a damp, partially digested collar with a tag that reads "Mittens."

Relic gets up from where he is sitting, closing his book and stashing it away.

"That's enough of that!"

He crosses the room to sit with his curious friend, enjoying the discomfort he causes the others in the room. Admiring Daylily's new furs he comments with a smile:

"I see you are Rat-Hunter no more, Daylilly. You have graduated to hunting cats! A much worthier foe! My congratulations..."

His smile is genuine but it fades as the words drop away from, lost in thought.

"Daylilly ... My goddess has found it necessary to teach me a lesson in humility ... to punish me for my continued failure on a certain matter from my past. The Wind has scorched my eyes and my vision grown truly dim and dark. I struggle to see across the room. I hear the Wind's voice closer to me now, but her voice is angry and full of impatience. I fear only only the most foul of fortunes awaits me if I stumble into a fight near blind as I am now. Would you... stand between me and the fury of the Wind, at least long enough for me to grow accustomed to this curse?"

OOC: Hehehe, my attempt to drag Daylilly into yet another adventure fraught with political intrigue and not much clobbering people with his hammer! :)

Rulkelp looked happy every time the door opened, but looks just as sad when they proceed to sit elsewhere in the room. The White Cloak guarding him smiles, and says "You see? Adventures live for combat and glory. Which is not what you offer them. They do not want to have anything to do with someone already accused with..." "I TOLD YA I DIDNT DO IT! I'M BEING FRAMED!"

Rulkelp shudders under the stare of the bartender, and looks around the room, a look of pleading in his eyes "I ask for your help in this matter, as I know I am innocent. I would never hurt any customer of mine. So please, come hear my story, and if you do not wish to help after that, I will understand."

Daylily peers at Relic quizzically, then waves a hand in front of the old man's eyes. "Is cannot see that?" He sighs. "Is okay, Elder. I cans be your eyes for the time. And I will not more hits you because of bad magic, is promise. I make the mind much strong, buy special magics."

As Rulkelp protests, the barbarian rolls his eyes. "What is you wants need? For to find special paper with special mark? For to searching for bad spirit talkers so we can catch-release thems?" He shakes his head. "I am not interest. I am tire of the silly civilize stupids. I am not want your yellows metal or drink that taste likes rot-berry or borings party with not even one punch-fight. Is your civilization, so is your problems to dealing with it. I am go to make real drink and take relax."

The halfling chuckles off at her table at the barbarian's song as she sips her wine and watches and learns of those who partake of the Dunn Wright.

The male halfling considers making his way over to the table with the chuckling woman, when he stops, pulls out his timepiece, gives it a once-over, shrugs, replaces it, and turns to head back over to the bar by Rulkelp.

"I'll listen to your story," the halfling replies. He extends a hand in greeting. "My name is Holphin Halicarnassus. I'm familiar with the ways of Venza. Perhaps I may be of assistance."

Rulkep looks questioningly at Relic, saying "I..uh...sorry? I don't follow." He thinks for a second and says "I think you will be investigating, so if you wish not to help me I get it. Maybe." He scratches his head, still looking obviously confused.

Turning at once to the halfling in front of him Rulkelp stands, smiling and extends a hand in greeting. "Thank you Holphin , Timothy Rulkelp, at your service. Please, sit down. Have a drink of whatever you like. It is the least I can do currently." He shakes Holphin's hand enthusiastically, looking towards Maria and saying "Give Holphin his usual drink, on my tab. And something for my escort here something as well. He is sure to need it." The White Cloak rolls his eyes, but says nothing.

Relic pats Daylily on the shoulder.

"My thanks cat hunter!"

He looks equally as confused as the man who interrupts his conversation with the barbarian. Sensing he is in need of some kind.

"Apologies, I spoke to my friend of another issue which does not concern anyone but myself. What is this trouble you speak of. If you can promise me there will be at least someone to punch in the face several times, perhaps we can be of assistance."

Relic looks at Daylily apologetically raising his hands in gesture of 'what else can I do'.

He whispered under his breath.

"You just promised to be my eyes I believe. You wouldn't bring shame to the Falayshena clan by breaking word with an old man would you"

Relic keeps a straight face, but his eyes twinkle with mischief. he turns back to the man who is pleading for aid.

"Tell me your story ..."

"What? I ams--" the barbarian starts, then he realizes what Relic has just said. He exhales slowly through his nose and glares at the old man, his drunkeness having vanished.

[sblock=elven]That were a low trick, Elder Storyteller. And did the state of affairs differ, I'd tell ye tae go polish your nub with an angry boneshredder, and tae try your luck with a judgment upon me at the next Clansmeet, honor of Falshenaya be damned. Yet ... I've the name of Daylily tae attend as well, and I cannae refuse ye for the greater shame of that. But know that I will better keep my tongue to my teeth ere forward if that's the way of it between us.

And know this as well: I will chase whatever fool papers and baubles ye ask of me, but there's nae worldly power that will command me tae take one more prisoner. It's a foul and sordid practice that nae befits even the unworthiest of enemies, and I will nae dishonor neither myself nor my foes further by partaking of it.[/sblock]

He growls, "Is so being it," and then points a finger at Rulkelp. "Is not my desiring to, but I will helping you afters all, fats merchant. Speaking of this thing you need. Quicklies! I ams not patience."

The halfling watches the exchange between elven barbarian and human wizard.

The halfling whispers to the barmaid and asks her to get the elf, Daylily, another of what he is drinking, placing a few coins on her tray. When the drink arrives for the man, Saranna will raise her glass in salute to the elf.

(( What adventure(s) is/are recruiting... Saranna is only 2nd level. ))
